The point of a student newspaper is not to inform the students about stuff. The point is to teach the journalism students how to be journalists.

If the student journalists are only allowed to write about homecoming, they'll become journalists who write fluff pieces to keep the population docile.

I would argue that it's a waste of time to be silly without also being whimsical, and that you cannot be properly whimsical without engaging in some silliness.

tl;dr "whimsical and silly" is too many syllables, we need a new word.

I wrote a 15 page report on heraldic symbolism in medieval armor and weapon design for my art history class the night before it was due (8am class). Made up 90% of it (only found one book for reference) and got an A. GenAI could fucking never.

wrote 20 pages on Faulkner's The Bear four hours before final papers were due on trucker pills and coffee and cigarettes and got an A, fuck you.
