Going with a poker analogy, the Padres are a very aggressive player who have overplayed their hand. They’re now pot committed with a decent hand, but they’re unlikely to improve moving forward and they don’t really know if they’re ahead or behind. It’s one of the worst places to be in poker.

Obviously, I wish they’d have been patient and let prospects arrive in hindsight, but I respected, and still respect AJ’s ambition and willingness to go for it. It could have worked out if X, Y, and Z, but it didn’t.

I’m not super resentful—just think you need fresh eyes and analyses at this point.

I still go back to I expected cashing LDV would net us something more than a (great) relief pitcher. The strategy of cashing in the farm wasn’t necessarily wrong, the execution was. The Fermin trade was just bad.

Our sources, as confirmed by Britt Ghiroli, tell us that he regularly celebrates “choo choo time” with some Dino Nuggies paired with ketchup and Sweet Baby Rays (sources say the other BBQ sauces don’t have high enough sugar levels and are “too yucky” according to the GM)
