The last green surge came at a time that the party had taken it's eye off the ball slightly on organising. Now it's quite the opposite. The vast majority of new members will be in places where there's stuff to do near them if somebody asks them to do it!

When I joined in 2001, GPEW had just over 5000 members in total.
That party was big enough to get MEPs, Assembly members, save Westminster deposits and be involved in running a couple of councils.
It just added a whole new party to itself in 24 hours.

Between this and the mouse at old Trafford the other week- why are people so surprised that stadiums are full of rodents? They're a pretty obvious habitat, just as train stations etc are too. I just hope food and drink stalls have good health and safety precautions.

This is only half the story though. A LOT of that support would disappear if you asked the question another way, eg "That hill up there is getting a big wind farm, is that good?". That's how Reform will get votes out of it. They're very good at making normal ideas sound stupid when it benefits them.

And Goodwin's wrong that it "asks people if they're English". Versions I've seen ask if you're Black/White/Asian etc then require you to enter an "origin", of which English is an example.
It's open to click (say) Black and enter English as an origin, and nowhere does it suggest origin=ethnicity.
