Finished another Somebody Somewhere rewatch, and I am once again mad that we only got 3 short seasons.

Totally agree re: asking for help! But commenting mostly because I am also in the ‘told repeatedly I have a small mouth’ club. I had a new hygienist at my last cleaning who cheerfully said, “Oh! Your mouth is so small! But you don’t have to worry, I trained in pediatrics!”

This reminds me that in college whenever I was pulling late nights writing, I would do handstands every hour or two (I was a gymnast growing up). Even in the library - I was usually in a group study room at least. But I still think it helps and will occasional do them now at 38 when I feel stuck.

And since we’re here and I read through again and it hasn’t been suggested yet: let’s throw in When You Believe from Prince of Egypt.

You wouldn’t get any complaints from me. I had a friend who recessed up the aisle to a version of that song. A+, no notes.

Loved the Fievel Goes West shout out from someone else. My favorite childhood animated movie.

I’d add “Rumor in St Petersburg” from Anastasia.

This is the question I am constantly thinking about. I sometimes choose to hope that there are people who take their oaths to the constitution seriously taking action (or inaction) that we just aren’t hearing about.

I don’t think it’s all that hard to rebut, but I think it goes to my perpetual discomfort with certain types of prayer and implied theology. This analogy will stick with me when I’m overthinking it.

I’ve only watched half of this on a whim, but he has a great take here on the “what’s the most powerful magic” question and why it isn’t friendship / love. I know little about D&D, but it felt like an excellent and simple rebuttal #blessed theology, too, which I enjoyed.

Honestly, it needs to go further than this.

We need to confront the fact that democracy and wealth hoarding cannot coexist. Allowing people to amass the resources of a small state/country allows them to act as such, which is inimical to a shared society of “one person, one vote.”

“No Kings” is great , but we really don't get a functioning democracy back until we internalize, bone deep, the instinctive response to this and every other statement like it: “I don’t care what that rich guy thinks.”

Make it your morning affirmation. Say it ten times at the top of every hour.

He sends me yellow roses on my bday, no matter where I am. Even called my former SIL (we’re still close) when I was at her house one year to get her address. Bonus: She laughed about it: “An unexpected call! But I also know I could still call him if I ever needed something and he’d show up for me.”

I made the mistake of agreeing to plans both days this weekend (they were fun plans), but now I can’t function. I am simply too tired and brain broken.

This is reminding me how unhinged it was that I read it in 6th grade (in the 90s).

I don’t think that it’s the best, but I’ve been rereading Northanger Abbey and it is way underrated. I think it should be the Austen entry point for more young people especially. It’s fun and funny. The satire is easier to follow. It’s got more actual plot. Just a good time all the way around.

At Publix yesterday two folks discussed that today is Columbus Day / Indigenous People’s Day.

“But why are they on the same day? That’s too much for one day!“

“Yeah, I feel like it would be easier to remember if they were on separate days. I don’t know why they’d combine them.”

In honor of spooky month, share a 4 word horror story that only someone in your profession would understand.

“Hey boss… valve issue...”

(Bonus photo of my former propulsion lead’s cubicle.)
Cubicle wall with two images. One is a man with goofy hair from the history channel with the word “valves.” The other is a photo of Jay Z and the words “I got 99 problems and they’re all valves.”

Right? Why does it take me hours to psych myself up to do it? Usually after telling myself I would do it last weekend…

Y’all might be convincing me to rewatch s3. It was such a disappointment when it aired that I have yet to give it another shot. I get annoyed thinking about it - just so much dissonance from the other 2 seasons. But maybe I can enjoy it if I go in with these positives to look for.

They’re clearly letting Hegseth write the marketing copy now…

Here’s a primer on ‘primer.’

It’s pronounced ‘PRIMM-er’ if you mean “a small book” or “a short informative piece of writing.”

It’s pronounced ‘PRY-mer’ if you mean “an initial coat of paint.”
