Hello new friends! I'm Harm Cox and I'm a transmasc culture writer that loves horror movies and porn.

I just got laid off from my last reliable gig so your subscriptions and donations mean the world to me. If you want to support trans folks, here I am 🙏
Apocalypse From Now On
The apocalypse is new to some of you. For queer people, it's been here a while. Who wants to die for art?

You're probably sick of me saying "you're so talented," but unless you get less talented we're both stuck here

GLORY, HOLE (2023) an incredible short horror film from Ireland. A trans dude plans to violently confront his rapist while his friend struggles to intercede. Harrowing to watch, visually fascinating, has haunted me since. Hiram Harrington has the juice.
Text says "A FILM BY HIRAM HARRINGTON/glory,hole/Tadgh isn't going to cut his rapist any slack.../ he's going to cut him off entirely./ Felix Jonathan Jenkins/ Emanuel Okoye/Luke Dalton/ Sonny Cannatella/ Isam Karai-Asanovic" image of a face being grabbed by a hand.

GRAPES OF DEATH (1978): i need to watch more Jean Rollin stuff. Picked this based on the weird title. I was rewarded with a wild euro-eco-horror nightmare where a pesticide turns a vineyard town into zombies. Ponderous, beautiful and deeply gross. Feels like watching a bad dream in the best way.
The French poster for GRAPES OF DEATH, with the French title "LES RAISINS DE LA MORT!" and a girl being squeezed in a handful of grapes while a bunch of the villager zombies kinda amble in the foreground.

Ooh, that would be really cool

THE SHINING FORWARDS AND BACKWARDS (2011): exactly what it sounds like. Two separate edit tracks of THE SHINING running over each other, one backwards and one forwards, at varied opacities throughout. Sounds gimmicky, but it's creepy and cool and a great way to re-discover a well-tread film.
A shot of Jack and Wendy drivibg to The Overlook from the beginning of THE SHINING, overlaying a shot from the end of the movie where Jack is mid-rampage.

HOLY TRINITY (2019): a queer dominatrix huffs a fancy hippie roomspray that lets her speak to the dead. A rambling and campy psychedelic satire of moderm queerness, including one of my favorite BDSM relationships I've seen in a movie. Great work from Theo Germaine, too.
the poster for HOLY TRINITY: a pink-nailed hand spraying a cloud turning into a skull. Text: "THE STORY OF A DOMINATRIX... WHO CAN SPEAK TO THE DEAD./HOLY TRINITY/A FILM BY MOLLY HEWLITT"

I'm trying to distract myself from some bad news right now, so please ask me about movies. For additional challenge, I will only talk about movies I have seen in the previous year. (I watch a lot of movies, so it'll be fine.)
get to know my favorite movies! for every like, i will post one movie i love. heart emoji. i dunno how to make that one with a keyboard.

The teaser trailer for By Time You See Me There Will Be Nothing Left, my directorial debut about a messy t4t serial killer couple, being a mentally ill cripple, and living in California in 2025, it’s a very depressing fucked up little movie and I can’t wait to show to yall (kickstarter below)

Did Screaming Mad George do the effects and/or make-up?

If so, the film is worth your time.

it is disorienting when you lose someone who you navigate your life to, like a star blinking out of the night sky.
a life lived in fearlessness, she carved out space for so many of us.
an amazing woman.

An illustration of Miss Major surrounded by candles with blue background and a famous quote of hers written in gold. The quote reads“I don’t need their permission to exist; I exist in spite of them. I want you to train and teach and love on and create families within my community and gender non-conforming people, so that we can understand that we have a culture, we have a history, we have a reason to be here. We have a purpose. We’re entitled to be loved, and seek happiness, and share that with the people that we care about.” -Miss Major Griffin-Gracy

Reading Miss Majors Speaks was an incredibly moving experience last year. I can't recommend this book enough for those unfamiliar with her work.

There is no piece of literature with inherent universal value; you should read widely and develop your own canon. Zines about building a DIY dick pump out of a bike repair kit mean more to me culturally and are more relevant to my life than Walden, and I'm good with that.

reading theory and knowing queer history is important because it will keep you from relitigating the most rancid discourse the 1970s had to offer really, really badly

I don't really like gender-segregated spaces as a trans person. They always involve a judgment call as to who is allowed to be somewhere, it is always based on appearance, and there's always someone who has not processed their internalized bigotry who can't wait to police the boundaries. I'm good.
