I've ranted about LLM "AI" elsewhere, and in replies, but to reiterate it in a thread that I can pin now:

One of the fundamentals of computer science is "Garbage In, Garbage Out". I learned this as a child, learning to program, over 40 years ago.

You cannot put bad data in, and get good data out.

Candace Owens just accused Trump’s team of killing Charlie Kirk — straight face, zero evidence, just conviction.
Just to make something clear; AI grifters and slopfans don't trigger my PTSD (while being in a church service does 😔).

The way they talk, however, trips /all/ of the same alarms and warning bells that "prophets" and most Pentecostals do, but there's no trauma there to connect to.
I occasionally get it into my head that I can maybe have something with a little bit of wheat in it, a square of home-made caramel slice won't cause any problems.

Unrelated*, my stomach hurts.
That previous post in this thread can interchangeably describe Pentecostal “prophets” and their gift of “prophecy”, and the AI “visionaries” and their grift of LLMs, with no changes.

Won’t be fooled again.
These people constantly claim to be able to predict the future, that they’ve seen what is to come, and if you just trust and believe, your life will be changed.

When that doesn’t happen, it’s your fault, you’re doing it wrong, and you need to try harder.

Point out specifics, and they lash out.
That article I added to my AI thread earlier has once again brought me around to prodding at the painful parts.

A significant amount of my CPTSD came from the abuse of “prophecy” over more than two decades of my life in Pentecostalism.

It may be why I’m so resistant to the claims of AI grifters.
I'm adding a second Baldur Bjarnason post to this thread. Also good.
I pointed them towards www.baldurbjarnason.com/2025/trustin... but I doubt anything will change their mind vis their subjective experience (as is true for all of us most of the time right?)
Trusting your own judgement on ‘AI’ is a huge risk

It's as if 8 Gigabytes of SSD space suddenly cried out in terror, and then were suddenly silenced.
Eh, we’ll fix it in prod.
My immediate and most basic antipathy towards AI is derailed in my pinned thread, but one of my first thoughts when learning about LLMs was: “wait, they sucked up the web at scale for their training data? Their data sets are polluted. Garbage in, garbage out.”

Didn’t say anything for a long time.

"Current attacks upon trans people bear a striking resemblance to those terrible campaigns against so-labeled aberrant lives. [...] It does not take much imagination to see the parallels today."

*may or may not. Damned autocarrot.
The thing that gets me is that an experienced dev may or most not be more productive, but an inexperienced dev with AI “tools” being jammed down their throat is going to shit out unmaintainable code that may or may not be riddled with security issues, but they definitely won’t be able to debug it.

we're staring down mass starvation and mass homelessness and a resurgence of diseases we rarely see anymore because they thrive on malnutrition.

all of it will be linked to snap failing to be funded. the oligarchs who control the republicans see it as survival of the fittest.

Americans want to watch charismatic people solve moderately difficult problems on a weekly basis. That’s it. And a group of fomo execs and techbros who don’t watch TV drove one of the most profitable industries in the US off a cliff rather than accept that.
Look what happenes when a TV show releases every year, with more than 8 episodes a season.

The AI industry wants us to believe AI superintelligence is the real threat from generative AI.

But that narrative was crafted to distract from the many ways genAI is being used to tear our societies apart, as we saw this week when a deepfake video rocked the Irish election. It must be reined in.
Generative AI is a societal disaster

This month’s Montage movie is “The Old Oak”, and I can appreciate the quality of the writing, it’s like an emotional beating listening to these angry racist characters.
