Remember, in totalitarian states, among the first people to be silenced are the artists, the poets, the writers. There's a reason for that.

Be that reason.

If you do art, keep doing art. Do it with as much passion as you can muster. Express yourself.
This is your reminder that writing is a political action.

It's been a fact of my entire working life, but I can't for the life of me understand why open, explicitly partisan gerrymandering is legal in the first place
Trump is responsible for at least nine of the ten biggest scandals in American History.
the president using the office to punish americans that didnt vote for him should really be one of the biggest scandals in americas history
Trump is upfront in saying he will use the shutdown to punish Democrats, and here are the receipts. About $27.2 billion cut from Dem districts compared to about $0.7 billion in GOP districts.
We all complain about the media, but need this type of in-depth journalism.

By the way, this blatantly corrupt asshole was confirmed 34 years ago today, Oct. 15, 1991.
The fact that this blatantly corrupt asshole hasn't been impeached is evidence that SCOTUS needs to be massively reformed.
See how complicated this gets when you see this philosophy as anything other than "Republicans win and Democrats lose."
Yes. He wasn't quite as forgiving of those students at Columbia.
There were only about three minutes of decent light in the city this morning. I spent another 2 hours noodling around, hoping the cloud cover would break.

Then it began to rain. Which would be fine if the Ricoh had weather-sealing. But, no.

That's NOT fun. Anytime you're cycling in fear from traffic is NOT fun, especially at night.

But when you have safe infrastructure--when you don't have to worry about being hit by an inattentive driver--cycling at night is weirdly peaceful. Or at least I find it so.
The DM Public Library is a great photo location.
Cycling at night (especially when you have SAFE cycling infrastructure) is a special pleasure. It feels completely different.

"Today, NPR will lose access to the Pentagon"

No. It's not like NPR somehow misplaced their access to the Pentagon. The Pentagon is TAKING it away, because they've refused to be stenographers for Hegseth's bullshit.

Stop the passivity. Be accurate. Even when NPR gets it right, they get it wrong.

Tom Bowman has held his Pentagon press pass for 28 years. He says the Pentagon's new media policy makes it impossible to be a journalist, which means finding out what's really going on behind the scenes and not accepting wholesale what any government or administration says. n.pr/4q87Jwb

I wrote about Sylvia Plachy back in 2008. "That’s my sense of Sylvia Plachy and her photography. It’s a constant, consistent expression of gratitude for simple, honest things."

I chatted with this guy. He was waiting for his wife, who was shopping for something (he didn't know what). He said, "She waited on me while I worked all those years, I guess I can wait on her while she shops."

It could have happened a long time ago if Netanyahu wanted it.
Trump: "What we're doing now, it could've happened a long time ago, but it was strangled and set back almost irretrievably by the administrations of Barack Obama and then Joe Biden. There was a hatred toward Israel."

But if it's one thing leftists know how to do it's get rejected and still want everyone to be okay. Right wing reactionaries get rejected once and decide to burn the world down.
SO MANY times I've completed the NYT crossword, only to see "there's something wrong". When I can't find a mistake & hit 'reveal' it congratulates me for completing the puzzle...but ends my streak. I don't care about the streak, but it pisses me off that once again I can't trust NYT to be right.
Under Roberts SCOTUS is no longer respected. That lack of respect is a direct result of the Court's abandonment of precedence & its embrace of partisan politics. The Roberts Court handed Trump a gas can & a Zippo, then asked him to please not set the US on fire.
That explanation may be improbable, but I rather like it. I'd much rather that be the case.
