Members of the media, Chicago police officers on the scene for crowd control, and the broader nearby community were also exposed to the tear gas.

Just returned from SF where I went with my cousins & their kids to explain the history of Angel Island immigrant landing depot. It's an island off of SF, look how close it is to SF, yet for detained immigrants who were there, it was a world away to getting to the US. Was in operation 1910-1941. 1/

Just found out on the college pals group chat that D’Angelo passed. Most everyone I knew back in those days loved his songs so much (and still do, of course). He was a musical genius and an unreal talent. What a loss for the world. Rest in power.

It feels like we’ve been forgotten, maybe because there aren’t huge confrontations to run photos of. But our neighbors are still being taken every day. Routine traffic stops are now done by 12+ feds alongside local police.

I don't doubt it. There are of course exceptions (to some degree), but the default assumption should be that local/state police will side with ICE/the Trump regime over protesters, or at a minimum certainly will not protect protesters in the face of ICE/regime violence.

ICE is all over the city and burbs today, including Waukegan. Multiple reports on social media from people who have found empty work vans and are trying to locate family of their owners. This is a near daily occurrence now.

I definitely understand that sentiment. To me a potential “silver lining” so to speak—and yes I’m reaching here—with these horrors is that more Americans will see police as adversaries, which is just the truth. To make a better world, “defund the police” needs to be a mainstream left-of-center goal.

A very large percentage of individual local police officers—and local police departments—are on the side of ICE and the Trump regime. On average, they’re much more likely to harm than help protesters. It’s essential to understand this reality. National Guard is, in theory, a bit different.

One thing I wish people would consider more is the strong possibility that she’s out of that job within a few years. I mean of course she might retire at CBS News a few decades from now, but I’d say it’s several times more likely she’s gone before the next census.

I think that’s likely a goal, whether conscious or not at this point. But so many of us will resist that it’ll be hard to pull off.

Perhaps more likely but similarly horrifying—societies bifurcated by those who can/often do interact with others without AI interfaces and those who lack that ability.
