Non-genre literature (including literary fiction!) is just as genre-bound as genre literature, with it's own tropes and themes and retreaded ideas; more so, in my experience. The highest heights of today's literary fiction reach no higher - and are often lower - than genre fiction.

Standardization of printing conventions (binding, cut size, length, stock) grievously erodes literary imagination

Just cooked a rarebit with homemade sourdough and pale ale for brunch. Tasted like dogshit, just awful, terrible decision all round. Regretting everything.

How have *you* failed utterly today?

with one of the most incredible kickers i've ever seen
NYT excerpt that reads:

On Thursday, Mr. Benioff said he had never been progressive even if many San Franciscans thought he was. He said he was a longtime Republican before switching to become an independent voter.

At the end of the interview, he turned to a public relations executive. He could be heard asking why her mouth was wide open and if he had said anything he shouldn’t have.

“What about the political questions?” he asked. “Too spicy?”

Then he hung up.

Had an afternoon off! Got rid of nearly all the veg from my garden, now have kimchi, pickled cucumber, fermented peppers galore, dried tomatoes. Almost hoping the greenhouse is done for the year as I’m whacked and I can’t eat all this… but my hands tingle and smell wonderful!
Preserved veg galore.
