CRUNCHYROLL SUBTITLING STAFF ARE REPORTEDLY BEING FORCED TO ABANDON OLD SOFTWARE IN FAVOR OF ISRAELI SOFTWARE

Crunchyroll subtitling staff are reportedly being forced to abandon their old software and switch to an Isr@eli one. According to anime insider SugoiLITE, most of Crunchyroll's subtitling team used to rely on Aegisub, a free open-source tool popular in the fan and pro communities.

But recently, staff have reportedly been told to stop using it and switch to a cloud-based platform called "OOONA," which is entirely developed in Israel.

This change hasn't gone over well wit many translators. They're frustrated about being forced to use unfamiliar software, especially as it may signal a bigger shift toward Al-assisted translation, something many hoped Crunchyroll had backed away from.
