3) we give billions of dollars every year to Israel to keep them going, especially their war machine. So clearly there's a big difference between Israel-Gaza and the Sudanese civil war.
follicular.bsky.social
The reason people care so much about Israel is 1) it's been a perennial conflict for decades and constantly in the news, 2) tens of thousands of people have been killed BY Israel and whole cities turned to dust, and

1) it just doesn't get the same news attention as Isreal-Gaza for whatever reason, hardly anyone knows about the Sudan civil war, but more importantly, 2) I'm not aware of the US massively funding and giving weapons to one side of the Sudanese conflict.

I've heard other people make this argument too. These women didn't really respond to the Sudan example, but did say they were against what Obama support of bombing and his drone attacks on civilians, like I was. The Sudan example is current but there are big differences.

One thing he did as a deflection was say like "oh, why aren't people like you so upset about other horrible wars like in Sudan and where were you when Obama was giving the Saudis US bombs to bomb Yemen?" (paraphrasing, but that was the general idea, a whataboutism)

I listened to this whole pod earlier today & saw this article by chance. It was a good exchange of hard questions and answers. Booker is a really good guy overall but is clearly afraid for whatever reason, to speak harshly about Netanyahu and the Gaza situation.

‘What in the Actual F*ck?!’ Cory Booker Confronted on AIPAC Cash in Explosive Interview
Welch confronted Booker on the $800,000 he’d received from AIPAC after he boasted he was “one of a handful” of lawmakers not taking cash from corporate PACs.

I am sounding the alarm that the GOP is engaged in an all out attack voting rights and free and fair elections. Voter suppression, gerrymandering, and troops in blue cities are just some of the ways they are using to try to rig the rules to keep power in 2026 and beyond.

Pay attention and act!

the extent to which media elites treat liberal americans as if they do not count in the body politic is a real problem
perrybaconjr.bsky.social
I read the piece. You shouldn't. He dismisses the "No Kings" protests as liberals in blue cities. He invokes Rosa Parks, as if rural white people in the 60s loved everything that the movement then was doing. "We need a movement but not this one" is a core centrist tact these days.

this would end us up with a democracy more rigged than Hungary's. actually, between 2010 and 2020, our democracy WAS more rigged than Hungary's. there isn't any international example of elections as rigged as Wisconsin's.

The plan to force taxpayers to cover emergency medical costs for non-citizens is a law called EMTALA: signed into law by the infamous democrat Ronald Reagan.

The official government account for DHS appears to be run by far-right trolls deliberately trying to provoke a response by using a term openly associated with ethnic cleansing. They will attack anyone who points this out and express faux outrage at the suggestion. They know what they are doing.
Remigration Wikipedia Page.

Not to be confused with Return migration.
Remigration is an originally European far-right proposal of ethnic cleansing via the mass deportation of non-white immigrants and their descendants, sometimes including those born in Europe, to their place of racial ancestry.
It is popular especially within the Identitarian movement. Some proponents of remigration suggest excluding some persons with non-European background from such a mass deportation, based on a varyingly defined degree of assimilation into European culture.

1. Last night, John Oliver destroyed Bari Weiss and specifically called out her inaccurate and targeted coverage of transgender people.

It's the latest of several shows Oliver has done in defense of trans people.

Weiss at CBS is a disaster for trans people.

Justice JACKSON standing up for voting rights. 🔥

Louisiana: Plaintiffs said 'we want another majority-black district.'

Jackson: No. They said 'we aren't receiving equal electoral opportunity because our votes are being diluted.'

Louisiana: Same thing.

Jackson: No, it’s not.
