We still get the Sunday, so let me know if you want any gift links.

I would buy giraffes. They would need a very tall and elegant greenhouse in which to frolic among yummy trees.

Whatever was going on, there was nothing I could do about it now, and that just made me more furious. So I watched five minutes of episode 174 of Rise and Fall of Sanctuary Moon. Did that work? No, no, it didn’t.

From James Baldwin: "You read something which you thought only happened to you, and you discover that it happened 100 years ago to Dostoyevsky. This is a very great liberation for the suffering, struggling person, who always thinks that he is alone. This is why art is important. ... (1/2)

Please be conscious if you protest this weekend that there are feds at the protest. They look like you and they sound like you, not like Steve Buscemi in that one clip with the skateboard. Thinking you can spot them is self delusion. Nobody you haven’t met needs to know your last name.

I might even argue that it is better to be spoilt, if one may only be reading/watching the thing one time through. The reread is a richer experience than the initial ride.

That a well-crafted story does not become less compelling when you know some of the plot points ahead of time is the opinion which fire cannot melt out of me; I will die in it at the stake.

Sex scenes are almost never "gratuitous" or "unnecessary." You learn things about characters and relationships during sex that you can't really learn any other way, such as whether they're into fisting.

power to be quoted and amplified in the media any time they feel like speaking

And the danger of that wealth is amplified by the power we've allllowed it to buy.

Power to influence elections.
Power to mold institutions.
Power to move markets.
Power to manipulate media.
Power to punish anyone who tries to challenge or question their power.

The 400 richest Americans are now worth a record $6.6 trillion.

The entire bottom 50% of America is worth just $4.2 trillion.

Read that back.

When 400 people control more wealth than half a country’s population, we have a very serious problem.

Is it interesting apart from the tension, though? (I haven’t seen it.) I like things where the tense parts yield fresh rewards upon rereading/rewatching, when you can appreciate the arc.

Once again: this is also happening in DC. Still.

It feels like we’ve been forgotten, maybe because there aren’t huge confrontations to run photos of. But our neighbors are still being taken every day. Routine traffic stops are now done by 12+ feds alongside local police.

Please talk about us too.

Federal Secret Police and plainclothes ICE agents kidnap multiple people from a neighborhood in Chicago. They then deploy teargas and brutally beat neighbors who come out to express their concern.

I never kept up with the various Star Treks, so when I read a mention of Cardassians, I picture them as Kardashians. They are very nearly human, so it fits.

If you know basic kabbalah it's actually not too hard to make a golem out of a labubu. Don't recommend it though. They have a pre-existing body-dharma. As soon as they wake they run straight for the sea. V hard to counter. Lost the first one. No idea what it's doing out there. Moved like lightning.

Conservatives: I’m going to the grocery store, better put on my chest plate and carry my pistol.

Leftists: I’m going to confront heavily armed and violent government goons, better get my Spirit Halloween costume.

A very rusty sign, attached to a tree & covered with leafless grey vines. It says PRIVATE PROPERTY / NO TRESPASSING in brown on brown.
