Two things can be true at the same time: neither charities nor mutual aid groups have the capacity to completely replace SNAP benefits for November, *and* we should still do as much as we can to feed people and save lives.

Notice was sent to all individuals who may be required to participate in able-bodied adults without dependents (ABAWD) federal work rules.

Visit the ODHS website to learn more about SNAP work rules.

Notices were also sent to:

Lawfully present non-citizens facing reduction or ending of their benefits.

People impacted by new federal limits on energy assistance-based Standard Utility Allowance.

⁨📷⁩ ⁨What will happen when the shutdown ends?

If it's before Nov. 1:

We will work with our vendor to distribute SNAP benefits as close to the normal schedule as possible.

The sooner we have resolution, the more likely we can distribute benefits timely.

If it's after Nov. 1:

Benefits will be issued as quickly as possible. The timing depends on:

How quickly the federal government acts.

How rapidly the nation's payment systems can process the catch-up issuance.

Every $1 in SNAP benefits generates $1.50 to $1.80 in local economic activity.

SNAP drives an estimated $1.6 billion annually into Oregon's economy.

Mayors Wilson’s overnight shelters have a remarkable vacancy rate — some up to 80% empty on average night.

He says that’s a positive.

“I’ve told my team I need hundreds of empty beds every night.”

That’s because it will allow him to start enforcing the city’s public camping ban next month.
