I would be interested to know; Frederick North is on my family tree (as is George III, separately).

Fun fact: North is also related to Samuel Pepys, the famous diarist.

Question I've just thought of for the first time: is there a subfield of history yet that does genetic genealogy but for historical gossip? Like, can we figure out if British PM Frederick North was actually the son of George III or just the son of his official father? That sort of thing.

Expert genealogists will immediately doubt this, since many people erroneously claim to be descended from royalty. I assure you that I meticulously researched this connection. (Also, I do not claim to be a descendant! My 1st cousin 1x removed’s brother-in-law married the daughter of an aristocrat.)

Well, I can now quit #genealogy, having traced one branch back to William the Conqueror 🤴🏻

Christopher Lee and Vincent Price between takes on the set of The Oblong Box (1969)
Actors Christopher Lee and Vincent Price — both in costume, Lee dressed in a dark-coloured suit and tie, Price in a black coat, white shirt and light-coloured trousers — captured together in profile as they face each other across a small chessboard, Price moving a piece and smiling while Lee looks at someone off-camera, mid-laughter, in a medium-length black-and-white shot taken during a break from filming The Oblong Box (1969)

The overriding goal of too many journalists is to provide “balanced” coverage from a “neutral” position in equidistance to both sides. That framework is much easier to justify if you pretend to be dealing with “normal” politicians – as opposed to committed ideologues pursuing an extreme project.

No, a west coast state.

(I know the Great Lakes area and east coast pretty well because I grew up in southern Ontario.)

My knowledge of central US is not as good as the west coast and the northeast, obviously.

You can probably guess which state I lived in.

Yup — a lot of the places where early settlers settled were named after the places they came from.

The "set aside the art from the artist" thing in this case is moot. Harry Potter money now goes right to destroying the human rights of trans persons. A billionaire who got her ass kissed for two decades got a rebuke and now she's got to wreck the lives of others.

It cannot be made clearer.

If you continue to support the Harry Potter franchise in any way, you are directly funding the removal of trans people's human rights in the UK.
