But, with the proviso that you should cross check against your insurance if you do have it, to make sure they are in network. I did some running around with people who appeared to be but weren't (in either direction), this summer.

Today's new therapist thanked me for just jumping in and telling her stuff without holding back, so we were able to make good use of the time. I was relieved to be able to vent about my work.

It's very specific to significant trauma and can be offered in a way that doesn't utilize the whole DBT team as originally intended. Which is to say, done well, it's a wraparound therapy and very intense. I'm sorry people have pushed it on you.

You don't have to continue doing it. Well trained LCSW and psychologists will plan with you for maybe a few weeks/months to get you through a bad patch and give you tools to manage your stuff. The goal is not to have you stuck in therapy for years.

The person I started with today was my third intake session in three months. It does take time and effort. I recommend using a tool like the therapist finder on psychology today, which can help narrow the search by insurance, provider, credential, etc.

I need someone to help me feel heard, and to help process trauma. Some therapists will ask goals and set timelines to the therapy, and that doesn't suit everybody. Having the space to talk about my messy stuff without judgement but potentially with strategies to cope is helpful.

You may need to change up who you see, including by changing from LPC to LCSW or psychologist depending on what you need therapy for. You can usually ask for a free 15 min consult to feel out whether you might be able to have a good relationship with a given person.
