Thank you to Pleiades for publishing my snarky little CDC hate poem 🖤

Encouraging News

As the CDC director announces with a smile that the overwhelming number of deaths occurred in people with at least four comorbidities
—people who were unwell to begin with I think of the film noir my students made where local townspeople kept being killed— how after every murder twelve-year-old Charlie in a too-big trench coat and fedora announced in his best old timey radio voice:
There's been a murder.
But don't worry—
it was only a SMALL murder.

It sucks so much! I’m sorry you know the feeling 🫂

Thank you, friend 🫂 I know you know 💔

I researched the “restoration” of CW as an undergrad & I shouldn’t have been surprised but the way a vibrant downtown was completely destroyed & the Black community forced out to either substandard housing on the outskirts of town or away entirely to Richmond/Petersburg/etc. Oof

If the state won’t protect us, & we won’t protect each other, & the state won’t catch us, & we won’t catch each other… what do you think is happening to all the people who keep getting knocked down?
emilyesfraser.bsky.social
PS - if you’re one of those people who lost their lives to Long Covid & you happen to know who you caught it from, are you still in relationship with them? Have they offered any support/sympathy/solidarity? Are they helping you survive? From what I’ve seen, there’s often a lot of disappearing 🫥

To the many people who say “I’ll mask or stay home if I’m sick, but you’re CRAZY if you want me to mask regularly, & btw I haven’t even been sick in years”… yeah you have, & you probably spread it to a bunch of other people, some of whom, statistically speaking, lost their lives as they knew them
Graphic from Yale School of Public Health:

49% OF COVID INFECTIONS
ARE ASYMPTOMATIC,
which means you may not know if you are actually sick. This is why it's important to take a multilayered approach (one or more of the following) to protect yourselves and others:
N95 and
KN95 masks
HEPA air filtration
Good ventilation (carbon dioxide <800 parts per million)
Up-to-date vaccinations
Rapid tests before gathering
Attention to wastewater levels of COVID-19

The cousin getting married is also the daughter of my favorite aunt who died at the beginning of the pandemic. One of five important funerals I’ve missed in the past five years because of ME. Not being able to grieve OR celebrate OR do anything at all in community is fucking inhumane, really
emilyesfraser.bsky.social
Yes, I listened to it a few months back! Wish I could retain more of the audiobooks I listen to but I really appreciate what I remember from it. And I don’t understand how supposedly educated people not only refuse to connect dots but are so *confident* about discrediting anyone doing the connecting
emilyesfraser.bsky.social
The time & life & experiences & relationships I’ve lost to this disease X the tens of millions of other people who have lost just as much makes me want to destroy things. Our collective grief could blow up the sun
emilyesfraser.bsky.social
My favorite uncle was also warned by his late partner he’s going to die in 2026– & I believe it (Irish Catholics w/ a history of communing w/ the dead…plus, ya know, Covid)
emilyesfraser.bsky.social
My cousin is getting married in London & my whole fam will be there & then Ireland for a bit after. Haven’t seen most of them since my own wedding 8 years ago. I’m so sad I can’t go 😔

Every time a liberal says some bs like this an RFK gets its wings
chromatowski.bsky.social
I hesitate to elevate this comment—IME people aware of how uninformed it is are in the majority on Bsky—but worth observing that this coming from eg the NYT opinion page is part of why RFK has an opening to pretend to be better on Long Covid than liberals. They’ve made the bar that low.

I’m being absolutely spammed by republicans from my home town begging me to sign up as a permanent absentee voter. I haven’t lived there in decades, I’ve never been a republican, & is what they’re asking for even legal? The spam has been OUT OF CONTROL since Chucky K died

Lol that’s like the fancy hotel rooms without a wall around the bathroom?? Watching someone pretend to take a shower like they’re in a porno is not the same as watching someone actually shower 🙃

The editors of the CDC’s Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR) were apparently fired today.

The precursor to MMWR began in 1878 to address emerging public health threats rapidly.

We are not “great” without it. We are vulnerable to threats from sporadic foodborne illness to bioterrorism.

This sounds an awful lot like what happened to ME patients with Ampligen. Can we please not repeat history?

A group of 53 people with #LongCOVID joined a clinical trial for Vyvgart. For many of them, the treatment changed everything.

Then, without warning, Argenx canceled the trial.

Most of them have now relapsed.

They're calling on the NIH and HHS to study the drug: bit.ly/48l1Qp5
A photo Nicole Barrick, a woman in a pink KN95 mask, receives an infusion of Vyvgart. The text reads, "The Sick Times. Vyvgart brought us back to life, but the Long COVID trial was canceled. We are calling on the NIH and HHS to study the drug. By Clare Banaszewski, Nicole Barrick, Mike Bilik, Addie Davis, Mia Delli Gatti, Ellie Hayes, Roman White." "For those living with Long COVID, every ounce of hope is hard-won. This isn’t just about physical symptoms. It’s about the emotional toll of being given hope — and then having it taken away." - Vyvgart clinical trial participants

Girl, you’re 30 years old. That’s not perimenopause!
emilyesfraser.bsky.social
I’m so tired of hearing “the pandemic was bad for my mental health & that’s why I refuse to acknowledge it’s still tearing apart hundreds of millions of lives & I definitely will never mask again & anyone who talks about it in the present tense is weird & wrong & bad & also perimenopause is rough!”

Bray is a historian at Rutgers who received death threats after landing on Turning Points USA's Professor Watchlist. As a result, he announced he was moving to Europe. And then this happened.

This kind of harassment and abuse of scholars is Charlie Kirk's legacy and it's only getting worse.

“Someone” cancelled my family’s flight out of the country at the last second.

We got our boarding passes. We checked our bags. Went through security. Then at our gate our reservation ‘disappeared.’

ME/CFS is a devastating condition that has long been denied, dismissed, psychologised and underdiagnosed. Research is at last starting to catch up with it, with glimmers of hope for those who have been left untreated for so long.
