Reading about an ancient Greek statue

Pausanias also recounts that the statue was kept constantly coated with olive oil to counter the harmful effect on the ivory caused by the "marshiness" of the Altis grove. The floor in front of the image was paved with black tiles and surrounded by a raised rim of marble to contain the oil.[7] This reservoir acted as a reflecting pool which doubled the apparent height of the statue.[8]

the actual story here, which the media never talks about, is that police in this country have become a discrete right-wing political operation. the story isn't about cops leaving (they're lying about that), it's about the police trying to exert influence over elections.

Like a half dozen times a year and wake up with the knowledge that I was dreaming - a vague feeling of "I was busy last night" - and I maybe remember dreams into a waking state two or three times a year.

I will say, as much as dreaming sounds fascinating, I suspect I lucked out here.

A little bloated but pretty fascinating. His diversion in "symbols" in dreams is a sore-thumb late addition to the text that only subtracts from its premise. I obviously don't buy all of this but god damn it does make me wish I remembered a dream every once in a while.

It's exactly that, but they do set a lot of people and things on fire and it's pretty wild to watch. Also the air force finds a crashed ufo and accidentally blow it up 5 minutes later which I don't think is supposed to be saying anything in particular about our armed forces but also says everything.
