“History doesn’t merely offer us the comfort of knowing we are not alone in grief; it reminds us that people have always carried on and made joy amidst the sorrow. We have continued past our empires, and we will again.”

I wrote about how this moment feels. www.thedart.co/2024/11/08/b...
Borrowed Time. Or: The Centrist Does Not Hold - The Dart
I think I have discovered a new emotion, since it happened. Well, not “new,” exactly, but a mixture of the familiar primary colors into a new shade. There’s rage, of course, although not the bright, b...

Here is Gregory Bovino, the man in charge of ICE agents in Chicago.
in conclusion: bedo meemaw merch NOW.
1. how is potentially upsetting content flagged for dropout shows?
2. is there a master list of triggers? if so, i have about 30 follow-up questions, starting with: who made it?
3. if no list, does it fall on a dropout staffer to determine triggering content? and did that person have a parakeet?
deeply amused that the most recent @makesomenoiseshow.bsky.social episode includes a content warning for a joke about a dead parakeet, but absolutely nothing for the next bit, about *cannibalizing children.*

this raises several interesting questions.

The amount is meaningless — less than one day of salary. But the principle is important: once the armed services are paid by the oligarchs, they become a private militia, and we no longer have a country.

David and Larry Ellisons’ sloptastic vision for Hollywood is coming into focus:

“Paramount has reportedly signed a $200M+ multiyear deal for Higgsfield AI to use mass-use Popcorn AI model that ingests dailies and script notes, then outputs regional cuts: new leads, alternate jokes, revised endings”

This person is one hundred percent correct and it’s scary af. We will never “media literacy” our way out of this as a society. We are about to reap the whirlwind when it comes to misinformation, disinformation, and informational warfare.

usually you’d have to be getting paid to come up with this kind of egregious euphemistic sanewashing spin. but at the NYT they do it for the love of the game ❤️

food banks have already been under pressure over the past several years, and with SNAP benefits expiring they're going to be the only safety net for a lot of people

In the last 72 hours or so Donald Trump has:
• Demolished a large section of the White House
• Posted a video of himself dropping shit on the American people
• Demanded a $230 million payout from his own Department of Justice

Also the federal government is still shut down, but, y’know…
i haven’t gone for the election doomer narrative up til now but this seems really bad.
I've been wondering why Dominion Voting Systems suddenly reached settlements with Rudy Giuliani, Sidney Powell, and One America News.

Turns out, it's been purchased by a Republican-owned election tech firm that insisted on it, per Axios.

Federal agents aren’t trying to keep the peace. They want violence to escalate so that Trump can declare martial law.

They shot a reverend in the head with pepper balls while he was praying in front of an ICE facility. If that doesn’t tell you where we are as a country, nothing will.

Lord give us the Democrats that Republicans warn us about.
Thune: "If the Democrats had won the majority, they probably would've tried to nuke the filibuster. And then you'd have four new senators from Puerto Rico and DC, you'd have a packed Supreme Court, you'd have abortion on demand ... "
“donald trump was ROBBED of the nobel peace prize. so my resolution proposes that we send seal team six to norway and steal it back.”
Rep. Buddy Carter: "Donald Trump deserves the Nobel Peace Prize. That's why I'm introducing a resolution today that will honor him with the Nobel Peace Prize."

(It doesn't work like that lol)
i constantly hear “AI is here whether we like it or not.” but like, okay, what if we fucking *don’t like it*? are we helpless against every nightmarish technology just because it proclaims itself to be inevitable?
"AI is not just a technology. It is a social problem. There is zero reason to allow it to run us over without a plan to mitigate its completely predictable negative effects." Another must-read banger from @hamiltonnolan.bsky.social www.hamiltonnolan.com/p/thinking-o...

I mean the worry isn’t that this is the tipping point for general violence, the worry is that this is the justification for state violence given the target. Minnesota was never going to be anything because it was one of their guys. It’s all asymmetrical.

Stocks are higher today because investors believe labor market weakness will push the Fed to lower interest rates.

But they're playing the wrong game. The labor market is weakening because Trump is altering the structure of the international and domestic economy. Its not something the Fed can fix.

so his argument is that someone used an autopen to forge a private birthday card in 2003 to frame then real estate guy donald trump?
Burchett: I mean, anybody can do a signature. We’ve seen autopens used quite a bit. I’ve never known Trump to be much of an artist. I don’t buy it.

Raju: You think someone might have forged this?

Burchett: Yeah…
