The translations we're hoping to fund for a Black small press are:
- A story about a Black trans woman in South Africa.
- A story about a Black woman in Zimbabwe who deals with the corruption of the men around her.
- A story about three Black men in Tanzania who must grapple with masculinity.

Extreme awesomeness. So glad to hear this.

What would happen if we valued aggressive hope.
edebell.com
I hug my books.
edebell.com
The people speaking up, trying to reach others around them rather than pointing away to what is already agreed upon - are the ones with the most *hope*.

They *believe* in people, they believe we can be better. They believe in what we can do, standing *together*.

I hope people will consider that.
edebell.com
If writers have it in them to craft worlds and stories, listen to editors and betas, still make their own choices, and then feel better with the result, they have the opportunity to do this in their lives, listen to the people trying to reach them, still make their own choices, and do better.

Tell me your most life-affirming literary opinion.

And for the white guys who say they can't help me because I told the truth?

That is darvo. Look it up, understand it, tell them.

Because I'm still here and have a heart so full of kindness it was sitting right out there for them to stomp.

I hope this provides some perspective.

It's been a lot.

I'm awkward, sometimes speak poorly, and work through tremendous layered ptsd that this writing community used against me. I consider myself now broken. And surviving.

But I have never lied to you and never will.

If you ever wanna make things easier for me, for the love of all gods, helllp.
edebell.com
Some, I believe could change. Some need to get out of the way or just stop being exalted.

I'm not going along with it. Not then, not now, not ever.

I don't want to look important or awesome! I just want to be a human. And on that level? Yeah, I could really use some support, guys. It's been a lot.
edebell.com
They will never shift power. *Or* never stand up to anyone blocking that!

They have no love, no loyalty, it's a big, fake, unkind act so they can look important, either because they want that or someone else in their life does to justify their writing.
edebell.com
It's a perimeter to protect their access to power.

This goes by other names.

And they say, no, it can't be that, because "We also involve BIPOC." Yeah, they involve them and *incorrectly* praise them behind their backs for being less hardcore about things.

Writers around the world have noted to me that the North American genre scene's exclusionary stance comes from being so close-knit.

Yeah, but they're not friends. They're strictly transactional, talk shit behind each other's backs, and are all tied back to the same abusive gaming and tie-in bros.
edebell.com
And NO you can't just co-exist with these writers, because they stand in the way of *any* power shift.

Getting along with them equals getting along with racism. Feeding it. 100%.

When white writers in genre are ready to listen, ready to be brave and care and stand up, they know where to find me.
edebell.com
Never forget I told people and was ignored.

Never forget Black women told me and are still ignored.
edebell.com
There are several people who are so lodged into the rotten core of racism and exclusion they should removed from every damn con. Not me.

But they're coddled wherever they go and I clearly can't do anything about it until other wp care.
edebell.com
The more I learn about how much of the North American genre scene is connected back to the same few sources of abuse and money the less I know what I can do about it.

I guess if you care and want to know if I see links to you in it, reach out. Can Signal.

Storytelling has never been constrained to fiction, and there's no better "what if" than what if we could be better. If you've been meaning to give this a read, maybe now's the time. The Dark Fantastic: Race and the Imagination from Harry Potter to the Hunger Games by Dr. Ebony Elizabeth Thomas.

and please do not tell me to pug

I said friends, like people who actually like me for me. Plus the anxiety and safety issues with strangers...no.

I wonder if I'll die before I can play a TTRPG campaign with friends or other writers.

I don't know if other people have had a kinder time in RPG communities. I really don't. Maybe the kindness of gamer communities was always a lie.

It has been to me.

The Art Shop bundle has been pretty popular! A little piece from a bigger name would surely fund this quickly, if anyone likes the idea of helping out with this really worthy project.

This has stayed stalled.

Zukiswa is resting after her abduction and imprisonment, and I'll talk to her about plans soon - I just hope someone can restart interest in this and we can get it done.

I hope someone popular can/will help. (And without the African diaspora having to do more of the work.)
