Happy any time I can talk about the Alabama-Miami Sugar Bowl. In this one I also get to bring up the 2006 Auburn-Florida game, just because. open.substack.com/pub/firewill...
It's. Just. So. Loud.
... But I guess that's OK now?

He's really popular with A Certain Type Of Bama Fan who loves him for Playing The Game The Right Way
i love ty simpson but he looks like a puppet who got his wish to be a real qb
I will always love Alabama football. Watching night games at BDS makes me question why I ever cared.

Who in the hell is Malcolm Brogdon
Just in: After nine NBA seasons, New York Knicks guard Malcolm Brogdon has decided to retire from basketball, he tells ESPN. Brogdon became the 2017 Rookie of the Year and 2023 Sixth Man of the Year after being drafted No. 36 in 2016.

A key reason to fly in & out of Birmingham (if it's affordable) is that the employees tell you you're in the wrong line with a really sweet smile.
For Godsake stop using the phrase "That being said"
This is like saying that there are no elite cooks bc good cooks aren't as good when they have the wrong ingredients. Not *wrong* but incomplete ... getting the right ingredients is part of the job.
Good time to remember that there are no truly great coaches in any sport. Literally none, ever. There are shitty ones and decent ones and pretty good ones, but the good ones only ever look great when they have elite talent, and will look mediocre or even shitty as soon as they don't.
You're only saying that bc he looks like Seabiscuit
There’s an extraordinarily good chance that Trevor Lawrence is dumb as a post
Not sure when we passed the "Do you realize how dumb that sounds?" barrier but we've long since left it behind.
It's something of a miracle Mark Sanchez is still with us, is what I'm saying.
Time for the "How likely is this person to be armed?" spectrum. Consider:
A man
An older man
In the downtown area of a mid-sized American city
Long after midnight
Driving a truck
Has a job collecting used cooking oil
A felony… Jesus… That boy was tweaking
An ancillary effect of the president sending troops into American cities is that now we have a headline like this one & the immediate reaction of some is "SEND IN TROOPS PLZ"
Can't remember exactly but I think Richard Johnson said something once about the run of Florida football (and FSU and Miami) coinciding with a pretty large migration to the state a decade or so before. That, along with Spurrier & Tebow, may account for a lot as well.
I don't know that I completely agree, but there's an interesting idea in this article that what we think of as "Florida football" is really "Florida football is when Steve Spurrier or Urban Meyer are coaching," but only then. You could do worse seeking an explanation www.nytimes.com/athletic/668...
Why can’t Florida football win anymore? 6 theories on 4 coaching flops in a row
Florida has won three national championships, but Billy Napier is the latest coaching tenure going wrong. So why can't the Gators win?

At age 44 I no longer have patience for anyone who uses the word "slander" incorrectly. You're not a serious person, are you?
