Welcome followers, new and old, to my new pinned post! My name is Chris, and I design and publish artisan tabletop role-playing games. I am nonbinary, and I am a big fan of comics and music. In 2003 I started my Dorkland! blog, which is where the name for this account and many others comes from.
A photo of me at my desk, one of my office bookcases behind me with a variety of books, RPGs, comics and toys behind me. I have short blondish hair and a beard that needs trimming up. I am wearing glasses and staring at the camera the person is using to take my photo.

Having grown up in Indiana, I was surprised by a lack of burnings there.

Folks rail against cancel culture bc the end goal of realistic capitalism is losing all agency in how you spend your money

And the ability to cancel implies they don’t control the money flow

Naoki Kubo is responsible for platforming some of my favorite artists, like Hideo Azuma and Fumio Nakajima.

Lemon People was a lightning rod for one of the most vital artistic movements of '80s otaku culture.

Comic Lo and ilk would not have been possible without it.

The industry owes a debt.

Please be conscious if you protest this weekend that there are feds at the protest. They look like you and they sound like you, not like Steve Buscemi in that one clip with the skateboard. Thinking you can spot them is self delusion. Nobody you haven’t met needs to know your last name.

I pitched Nemesis The Warlock games to a couple of 2000AD licensors over the years.

People with money want more money. They don't care that their not actually maximizing their own potential income.

I was looking around for print version, but the used stuff is outrageous. I'm probably just going to pick up a couple of their PDFs.

I ordered some reference material on Charlton Comics because I want to do some profiles of Charlton characters over at my blog. The Action-Heroes Archive that DC put out that I have has a really good introduction from Dick Giordano, so that will lay some foundation.

Part of me really hopes that they go "Why do we want to be involved in comic books?" and sell off DC, but I know the urge to control Superman and Batman would be too much.

Today is the birthday one of the most talented creators in TTRPGs, Jennell Jaquays, who passed away last year. Jennell was one of our company's earliest artists, and played an prominent role in Chaosium's success over many years, as an illustrator and writer.

Hey! You can get my #TTRPG where you play characters inspired by the heroic pulps of the 30s and 40s, and fight fascists and punch Nazis in the contemporary world. The game is influenced by the first ever dice pool #RPG and uses a D6-based mechanic to play. There's also a print version available!
Adventures In The Unknown by Christopher Helton
A game where players play characters who are larger than life, and fight Nazis and fascists to make a better world.

We have the hard work of Amanda Connor and Jimmy Palimiotti to "blame" for that, I think.

Put Harley back with Joker, because abusive relationships are cool to them.

We're also in a period with more queer characters leading books at DC in forever. From Alan Scott to Dreamer to Galaxy to Harley & Ivy. Is it perfect? No, but it is better than it has been since I've been reading comics.

Regardless, the move would be disastrous for DC.

I heard an animator once point out how artists who work in animation, but then make a move into comics, are more successful than artists going from comics into animation. He took this as evidence that animation was the better medium, which is a weird conclusion.

Between hiring Bari Weiss to be EiC at CBS News, and the cancelation of Stephen Colbert, I really hope that people don't think that Paramount buying WBD would be good for DC Studios/Comics in the long run. Particularly the queer characters that DC has.

I've been happy as a "forever GM," I was a player a lot in other people's games as a kid, and I just never enjoyed it as much. I have a much better time as a GM.
