It's interesting to watch him (a professional linguist) gradually abandon all hope of understanding.

The last chapter, where he's just walking through the city, taking it all in, is especially dreamlike, I thought.

For Peachtober prompt "brush"! :)

A digital drawing of little cat characters scattered around the page, most of them doing artist things. There are also lots of flowers, a cup of coffee next to a cup of paint water, and so on.

Just FYI, here are my personal beliefs on the use of large scale violence.

1. Violence tends to be self-replicating, and so should be avoided as much as possible.

All violence has the potential to entrench itself.

"Ancillary Sword" is the second book in Ann Leckie's trilogy. And its able to devote the entire plot to the sort of mission we saw in flashback in "Ancillary Justice". Can Breq succeed where Awn failed? Or will the rich continue to violate the poor with impunity?

Reminded of the concept of "Speedbumps" in HIS MAJESTY THE WORM today.

I'm a forgetful person by nature, and when I'm GMing there's a lot of spinning plates.

I purposefully put speed bumps into the game so that I could remember to do the "bookkeeping" parts of the game that were important to me.

Whenever I see men complain about the male loneliness crisis or unique emotional/psychological issues faced by men, it’s very clear that they just don’t see women as full people capable of experiencing the exact same emotions they do

This morning I drew a test illustration to accompany the rules. But note that it is just a test as I think Daria is still tweaking things.

And I naturally love the character sheets! Remember what I posted about character sheet artist being a good niche to fill in the indy #TTRPG ecosystem. :)

So excited to share the Kickstarter for Wildendrem Volume Two: The Saintly Hollows, my ongoing tabletop RPG collaboration with @andrewmcalpine.bsky.social. We have so much fun writing these, and people seem to like playing them too. #osr #ttrpg www.kickstarter.com/projects/626...

Me, a genius: "Draculas are the best monsters."

You, a fool: "Dracula was one person. Those types of monsters are called vampires."

Bram Stoker, the author: "Draculas were a great and noble race."

"I wrote because I believed in an idea that feels almost silly now: that visibility would lead to acceptance.

That if people just knew the stories of trans people, understood our humanity, they’d stop seeing us as threats or curiosities or political pawns."

From the golem of Prague to the "Spirit Movement Machines" that guard the Buddha's relics, I'm super inspired by stories of early automatons.

The Castle Automatic - my upcoming big dungeon for HIS MAJESTY THE WORM - draws inspiration from one of my FAVORITE ancient robots, Talus.

“These findings follow previous research which concluded that the more people learn about how AI works, the less they trust it. The opposite was also true — AI’s biggest fanboys tended to be those who understood the least about the tech.”

The one time I felt tempted to watch Tron: Legacy, I just rewatched Tron (which I hadn't seen since I was a kid) instead, and it was decent, but also completely satiated my desire to see more.

One of the things about this study is that a lot of baby and toddler books are written in house, by editors. So the study reveals the whiteness of editorial in kidlit even if not explicitly. But, big picture, this trend is unacceptable. I remember so many promises www.theguardian.com/books/2025/o...
