What's truly wild is the one card I probably would have built a deck for, Peter B. Parker (for cosplay reasons), was never gonna be in the set because he was a bespoke multiversal Spider-Man created for the Sony Spiderverse movies! If he had a comic appearance, he'd have been eligible for a card.

If the art was critiqued and vetted as closely as the content Creator numbers for the set (as few as 6-10 only from figures I heard)... That kind of freedom of style wasn't going to happen here.

NEW — I dug into the story of ICE abducting a 13-year-old boy in Massachusetts and moving him 500 miles across state lines without notifying his mother, local cop's complicity, and how the federal government's justification for such cruelty is already falling apart:

ICE took a 13-year-old they said had a gun. Local cops say he didn’t.

Now he's detained 500 miles away from his Massachusetts home.

It's the only way I can picture this rhetoric being fed now. For a while, it definitely was "I'm gonna make something up that's clearly not happening to fit my narrative".

But now? With the amount of people in that admin with ties to genAI projects?

It just sets up a whole alternate reality.

Its also hard to have negative commentary from influencers/creators when they're shelving content left and right they had planned to make on the set because the effort-to-views/clicks isn't there. Rebell isn't the only one I know who did this. bsky.app/profile/rebe...

The playerbase just completely bounced off the set and set up the spiral/ouroboros of "players don't like the set, so I won't make content about the set, but if I do, its gotta mention the negative reaction, which reinforces that players don't like the set..."

i don't feel like magic set surveys usually have this question and i don't appreciate the implication that content creators, who do so so much for the game, are possibly to blame for a bad set's poor performance. 👎

Negative influencer commentary only came about because the set earned it?

The Spider-Man set sadly fell victim to late scope change during dev and that showed.

(Kudos to the Game Design/R&D for making the best possible lemonade they could with the switch-up lemons they were handed)
