Just looking at Google Maps for something and saw this blast from the past. If you look closely at the right hand side of the window I'm pretty sure you can see me sitting at the reception desk!!
Erica Peat & Diable Solicitors shop front. Office building on a high street. There are two large windows with blue window frames. The walls are yellow. The paint is peeling off after years of neglect. Above the windows is a sign with a dark blue background and the words Erica Peat & Diable Solicitors Criminal Defence Specialists picked out in shiny silver 3D lettering.

The bookies appeared long before either Turkish barbers or vape shops were a thing. I was working in Hackney at the time and over a period of a few months bookies had moved into a number of shops that were previously shops, restaurants etc.

What the Chinese spying case witness statements reveal

The Crown Prosecution Service appears to have made at least one serious error, while the government's position now makes sense

By me

emptycity.substack.com/p/what-the-c...
Yesterday this blog sought to make sense of the decision to drop the Chinese Spying prosecutions on the information then available, and averred that both the positions of the government and the Crown Prosecution Service did not make sense.

Now the government has published three witness statements, the picture now changes. The government’s position now makes sense, and the CPS looks as if it made at least one serious mistake and possibly another.

Dubai Dicky was outraged when Lucy Connolly was convicted of the same offence. Sounds like he's in favour of two tier justice.

Glad to hear this. I maintain that one of the worst, but definitely the most overlooked, thing Blair did was a completely unnecessary liberalisation of gambling laws that allowed bookies to flood the market yet provided no benefit to the British people themselves.

What were the odds of that happening?

Reform candidate visibly squirms as he's confronted by a local family in Caerphilly.

👏 "We've lived here all our lives. And I have never felt so unwelcome in my own hometown as I do since your party came into Caerphilly."

"With all the rhetoric that you bring in, I have to say to my sons, please don't go there. Please don't do this."

"I blame you for that."

Recently I was moaning that a Crown Court had insisted I attend in person to fix an appeal date. I was told it couldn't be done administratively or with me remote. Well, the court has now changed the appeal date without me there and without even consulting me. Seems it was possible after all!

"Hey robot butler, hang the washing out then load the dishwasher." I can manage that. Basically, I want Musk and Co to build me a robot butler. I can read a pdf for myself, just load my dishwasher.

Now this is career advice.

My colleagues wonder why I got promoted as they were working here longer than I am. I say it's because I like to help out, stay behind after my shift without pay if I need to. The truth is, I caught the big boss having an affair and to keep my mouth shut, I blackmailed them.

I've had one of those robot hoovers. Mine claims to use AI, if it does then they AI is broken. I've seen flies that can navigate their way around a room more efficiently. I can't help suspecting there is no AI and it's just moving randomly.

Where are the AI systems that will make daily living tasks easier? Where's the AI that will help around the house, cook meals for us, take the dog for a walk, etc. That sort of stuff could be a huge help to the disabled. It would open a world a leisure for all, but I guess it's not profitable 2/2
defencebrief.bsky.social
It's interesting how the development of AI is all about doing human's work foro them; it's all focused on the generation of wealth, or perhaps another way of putting it - on the removal of humans from the work force to increase profits. None of it seems to be about making people's lives better. 1/2

Me too but so much of this shite has to be shredded, eg Worldpay post details of all transactions each month to me. I don't need it, don't want it, and could just download it if I did. But I have to shred it.

that’s a great description almost all the jobs in our service economy,Royal mail could not survive to send the important stuff without junk mail & unless clerks are adding junk to spreadsheets no one will read more than once our entire fake system collapses that’s why people are scared of AI
defencebrief.bsky.social
About 50% of the post I get could have been an email. 40% of it need never have existed at all. Only about 10% is something that needs to exist and be posted. Much of what I get is both useless and needs to be shredded. I can't tell you how frustrating this is to me.

Letter sent to Nigel Farage by Patrick Sargent
Former Reform UK regional Chairman

He is surprised to find out that the limited company he joined:

• Has no democratic structure
• Is not a meritocracy
• Is a Farage vanity project
• Has no policies
• Is not a professional outfit

Are we really asked to believe a single civil servant is alone responsible? I fear he may be being made a scapegoat. Why not publish the evidence, publish the correspondence between NSA and Deputy NSA, and have the NSA answer parliamentarians’ questions?

It was Tory ministers who allowed these people get where they did. If I were Badenoch I'd shut the feck up.

I'm not so sure about that. I just logged into X and was immediately met with a KC taking the piss out of a barrister for getting the law wrong on his Youtube channel, a barrister bragging about a courtroom victory, & a third discussing a new court case. They're def there & talking law,
