I do the same thing because I once read that yellow roses symbolize friendship rather than romance. I do it especially faithfully when talking to my ex who I’m still friends with 😅

My super modern regulatory plan is that any entity named for a thing from Tolkien has to publicly explain why Tolkien wouldn’t immediately throw it into Mount Doom
Tolkein continues to resonate. The new bank being set up by Palmer Luckey and backed by Peter Thiel is named Erebor after the “lonely mountain” in The Hobbit. This was also an interesting line in this rpt on the new bank by @tabbykinder.bsky.social www.ft.com/content/202d...
Boiled is good, but what about baked until it turns to leather-coated dust?
They saw Penzeys Mural of Flavor and said “we want that, but with our shitty racist agenda instead of an inclusive one”
The MAGAs are selling “Border Blend” taco seasoning that they claim will “close the border on bland meals” - “because when it comes to flavor, we're all about building walls — delicious ones, that is.”

Racist taco seasoning Introducing the Border Blend Taco Mexican Seasoning - because who needs an open border when you've got flavor this good? Crafted with a blend of authentic spices and herbs, this seasoning brings the bold taste of Mexican street food right to your kitchen, without any of the political drama.
This blend packs a punch that'll make your taste buds sing. Whether you're whipping up tacos, burritos, or nachos, just sprinkle it on your favorite dish and let the flavor do the talking.
So close the border on bland meals and let the Border Blend Taco Mexican Seasoning spice up your life. Because when it comes to flavor, we're all about building walls — delicious ones, that is.

want cake? why not try "mug of cereal." that's right, mug of cereal: Its what you have
I especially love the detail that the six-pack ring in the raccoon’s trash is snipped for safety 🩷
Baby just got his RSV shot 🎉 One tiny bit of peace of mind in this big scary world.
One of those early scientists who seems like they were a genius at everything. “Not only am I basically inventing a whole field of study and the equipment I need for it, but I’m also great at drawing it and learned two extra languages to communicate it.”
I’m glad expectations are lower today!
For the #SciArtSeptember prompt origin a print about autodidact marine #biologist Jeanne Villepreux-Power (1794 – 1871). 🐡🧪👩🏼‍🔬🦑 Not only did she invent aquariums for scientific study, she solved the millenium-old mystery about the nature and origin of the argonaut’s shell, showing that it is in fact 🧵
My linocut portrait of Jeanne Villepreux-Power with an aquarium and one of her observation cages with anchor. There is a paper nautilus in the aquarium and she is holding a net while wear a voluminous dress. The print is in a gradient of gold at the bottom through green and purple at the top.
What makes me extra sad about this is of all the numbers I still remember, and it’s at least a dozen, I think exactly one still works because my dad had the home office line transferred to his cell phone. All the other landlines are gone forever.
If anyone needs me I will be in the museum, lying down next to the bog bodies.
Did people really memorize phone numbers before cell phones, or is that just a movie thing?
2? Questions
I was watching some old shows from the 90s and noticed people would just dial numbers from memory - like they'd call their friends or family without looking anything up.
Made me wonder if that was actually normal back then? Did people genuinely have all their important numbers memorized, or did most folks keep a little address book or written list nearby?
Every so often I click through to a profile l out of morbid curiosity - this has to be a parody, right? - and it actually turns out to be a parody, and I breathe a sigh of relief.
Not often enough, though.
Happy Columbus Day!! I have to think that Columbus would be turning over in his grave to find that after risking his life to discover America, the Super Bowl halftime show is going to be performed in Spanish.
Reading this thread I’m now realizing my wit lag may have been an asset the handful of times I substitute taught in high school classes. That perfect scathing comeback was never ready to go when it would have been dangerous 😅 Instead, wide-eyed sincerity effectively derailed the rare actual malice.
My local natural history museum teaches about the Odawa cultural practices that French trappers and later British colonizers adopted nearby, and has (not enough) info about the broader Anishinaabe both past and present. I haven’t been there in years, would love to see a full-on land acknowledgement.
The “how dare you experience a shred of joy or think about anything besides my pet cause” accounts are so tiresome and don’t seem to realize they’ve already rolled over and accepted defeat on a very important front.
It’s brassicas all the way down (but yes the radishes split a little higher up the tree)
Finally got to my first farmers’ market of the year yesterday and brought home radishes, kale, and broccoli, so I’m getting a kick out of tonight’s brassica posting

My cousin Sterling isn’t mute, but he also prefers to stalk around the house at ground level and be lifted up and down between perches. He *has* wings, but why use them?
My aunt and uncle have trouble sourcing phone books these days, but those are his favorite thing to methodically eviscerate.
Thanks for the reminder! I’ve heard wonderful things about Banana Ball from a serious sports fan friend, and noticed a game while scrolling HBO listings the other day but had forgotten already. That might be the perfect antidote to the Tigers-Mariners game last night!
Possibly all of the above? The brewery next door is doing an Oktoberfest event but we don’t feel like partying, so the plan is to walk over and grab some German food for dinner, maybe a growler of seasonal beer, then come back and get cozy.
We’ll implement it just as soon as we’re all done napping!
One of my friends scoffed at the people leaving the bar after the 8th, “with one inning left.” I’m convinced this was her fault.
🤝 Yes we lost but who cares it’s really over

Apparently a tiger and a mariner are fighting. I thought they were watching sports but maybe they're watching Life of Pi
They’re so close to getting it, but also so, so far.
