Re: mystery hour Guinness question

This is a BBC archive of the last pub in Belfast to use two barrels to pour a pint of plain (Guinness was done similarly). It is an amazing video, it is an incredible mix of poetry, sadness and nostalgia.

A single poppy was good enough for the people who actually went through that hell, it should be good enough for everyone else.
I sometimes wonder how many WWI and WWII vets, if they were still around and in their prime, would absolutely larrup any clown in a poppy mascot or full poppy suit for "taking the piss"

Parents, please check your kids’ candy this Halloween. I’ve just found an ancient metal whistle with the inscription β€œQUIS EST ISTE QUI VENIT" inside a Snickers bar. I blew it and heard a note of infinite distance, and now I’m haunted by a figure in pale, fluttering draperies. Be safe.
My grandad was over there too, I wear mine to remember him and that if he hadn't made it back there's 200+ descendants of his who wouldn't actually exist.

From the Larchives: The Rocky Horus Picture Scroll. One of my favorite works. I had the assistance of an Egyptology PhD student to translate the Time Warp phonetically. Enjoy :)
🎢I heard there was a secret-ion
🎢That David oozed
🎢And it pleased a John
🎢But you don't really care for oozing, do ya...

I’m sorry but these sound like vintage esoteric euphemisms for β€œhomosexual”

What a weird name for a dog. But sorry for their loss.
Haha, that's brill! I made a belting mistake when I first moved over there. We had a couple of guys installing wifi on a hot day and I said "Phew, estoy caliente" thinking I meant I'm hot.

When what I actually told them was I'm horny.
I learned the lingo, my wife spoke it, and we got a lot more interaction from the locals and more understanding and appreciation of the culture.

Annoyingly, the ones who couldn't learn or didn't care to also made Spanish friends and appreciated the culture too!

And the world just kept spinning...
There were people living in Spain when I was there who'd been there for years who couldn't even say "por favor". And not just Brits, it was Swedes, Danes, Finns, Dutch etc. it was a tourist town so they didn't need to, they had shops, schools and workplaces all in their own languages.
The Spanish have multiple regional pronunciations for chorizo, plus they call London "Londres" so they are really giving zero fucks how you pronounce their words in Sainsbury's or Tesco's or some tapas bar in Leeds.

Trying to pronounce it correctly in Spain though does show you're making an effort
