Check what it does if you talk about hominids in Scunthorpe

It's fun in a really daft, twisted way. The best ones are just a big adventure imo.

Absurd though

why make a bad decision once when you could make it twice?

It's kind of wild that a species that's recently been as common as the long-tailed macaque is now endangered. Especially as a driver of their decline is laundering wild monkeys for biomedical testing as captive-bred, and lobbyists have been trying to get their protection downgraded.

This sucks.

Depressing that the IUCN's confirmation that an endangered species is in fact endangered is the closest thing I can provide to "good news."

Latest for @mongabay.com shows how a concerted effort by the biomedical research lobby to downgrade the IUCN listing of long-tailed macaques has failed.
IUCN upholds long-tailed macaques’ endangered status after complaint
BANGKOK — The long-tailed macaque will remain on the Red List of the IUCN, the global wildlife conservation authority, despite objections from the biomedical industry arguing the designation hampers r...

🎉AND HERE IT IS!🎉

This year's ✨Wildlife Photographer of the Year✨ is won by Wim van den Heever's rather haunting image of a brown hyena emerging from the darkness in the abandoned mining town of Kolmanskop, Namibia! Just in time for spooky season 📸🧪🐕
A brown hyena with stripes on its legs stands at the bottom right corner of the picture, as an abandoned house towers in the background during the night.

It is laughable to think that you can neuter the far right with minor tweaks like this.

How many Conservative or Reform supporters even know that immigrants have to pass a language test? They object to immigration on emotional grounds, not because they have dry objections to eligibility criteria.
To ensure graduates contribute effectively to the economy, the maximum post-study stay will be reduced to 18 months from the current 2 years for most from 1 January 2027. It comes after data clearly showed that many holders had not transitioned into graduate-level employment as intended.
Finance requirements for student visas will also be increased for the 2025 to 2026 academic year, meaning foreign students will have to demonstrate they have sufficient funds to support themselves.

The frilled lizard is an iconic Australian reptile because of their utter fearlessness.

Their scientific name, Chlamydosaurus kingii, translates to 'King cloaked lizard' & you can see why.

They're one of a few modern lizards that can accurately be called bipedal, running upright on hind legs.

Ha. Yes and no: I’ve never really worked with bat call data but I do have friends who do…
davehb.bsky.social
Probably yeah. I’m sure most people in the affected areas would prefer to slow the water down upstream, but I guess these issues never appear that pressing until they become so

Europe’s gonna be the last one I need to get the set isn’t it? The very continent I live on
davehb.bsky.social
Odd realisation: within the next year I'll have publications using bat-data from every continent bats are found on apart from Australia and Europe.

European and Australian people, hit me up

FWIW it wasn’t until I was running >=10ish miles that I started getting runners highs. i think some of it was more mental than physical in that I started getting them about the time that I felt genuinely good about what I was achieving out there.

Which is uh, quite a shit intro to tell new people

There are four house martins feeding above my head. They’re six inches long and are about to travel 6,000 miles. That’s about 63 million times their body length. The lunatics.
