Yes to this. And I think the instinct goes beyond. Obviously less imp than news and not a regulated industry, I used the proposed EA buyout as an example in my Corporations class specifically because I knew most of my students play those video games and would feel robbed as consumers.

Of course this is the core motivating insight for regulated industries law, which comes out of one part of the antimonopolist movement. It also is part of a lost tradition of free speech theory

this is not quite an anti-trust tragedy but it's certainly some kind of capital market regulation problem if people can buy assets that provide huge public goods specifically in order to destroy the public good provision

As other commenters have noted, telling generative AI not to invent anything does nothing at all. You can’t command a machine to not do the very thing it was created to do. It generates new data, it does not extract data!

Seeing people nonchalantly post stuff like makes me feel like I'm going crazy honestly.
A post from an academic on blue sky that says: "I'm learning about "prompt engineering" when asking LLMs to extract data. I now add this to all instructions:

Style
Be concise, analytic, and specific (cite page/figure if provided). If essential info is missing, keep going but flag Unclear and exact data needed. Never invent data.

Does a new generation of social scientists have to publish more to achieve less? (from 2019)
blogs.lse.ac.uk/impactofsoci... Intuition says "yes", and so says data for sociology.
Figure from blog post: Shows how much 342 new assistant professors had published at the time they began their first jobs. For Assistant Professors and newly promoted Associate Professors, there is an upward trend from early 1990s to late 2010s. The trend is stronger for Associate Professors.

I’m not trying to give @pbs.org ideas for raising money—but I am. I would buy women’s fit T-shirts of all my favorite childhood shows. Reading rainbow, 321 contact, square one, zoobiliee zoo. I feel like two generations will run to donate even more money for shirts with Levar Burton on them…

Democrats doing right-wing talking points on immigration and "the border" --to really an unusual degree-- was bad policy and it was bad politics.

#BlueJays win, 10-1, and take a 1-0 lead over the Yankees in the ALDS.

This was Vladimir Guerrero Jr.’s finest day with this organization… and Alejandro Kirk’s. Kevin Gausman’s, too.
