Great movie!
What Lies Beneath is one I go to bat for, the end is a bit too VFX happy, but until then it's a real good slow burner with Ford revealing a surprising viciousness as the heel.
Watching What Lies Beneath tonight and it's a pity that 2000 is thought of as a bum year for Hollywood cinema (especially right after '99) since it really was the last year of movies driven by STARS and not IP or branding. Of the Top 10 grossers only Dinosaur and X-Men truly fall under the latter.

Not simply fascism. Monarchism.

I feel like I owe it to the Springsteen biopic to see it as a thank you for prompting the vault release of Electric Nebraska. That’s the kind of marketing synergy these things never have.

I loved One Battle After Another’s ending on first viewing, but the second time around I realized *how much* is going on in that scene beyond it being a really great car chase. So I had to write something about the brilliance of The River of Hills

They dislike Mamdani more than they dislike Trump.
What are we doing, Times? (I know what they’re doing, and they’re failing to meet the moment.)
The top two opinion pieces on the NYT are about how the Democratic Party is broken (no vision; gentrified) and the third is titled “How Women Destroyed the West” by David French. I’m not even going to read that clickbait to see if it is an attention grabber or what it seems to be.
Hell yeah we are… lol

After the films about Dylan going electric and Springsteen going acoustic, I cannot wait for the 2+ hour Oscar bait biopic all about when Tom Waits went full Cookie Monster

Going through your inbox and finding unused Crtierion discount codes during a half-off flash sale is like finding a lump of gold in your pocket.

All these people avoiding m-dashes because “AI uses them” simply means that there’s more for me!

Democrats should be drawing up legislation right now, this very minute, to bar Trump from helping himself to $230 million in taxpayer funds from DOJ. Challenge Republicans to hold a vote on it. Push this so hard in the media that every GOP Senate and House candidate is pressed to comment on it.

That’s called burying the lead

The Democrats need to get a hell of a lot of cameras on the White House and plaster the photos everywhere. It's not just the brazen symbol of a megalomaniac destroying national heritage; it's happening during a government shutdown when ordinary people aren't getting paid. Make every American see it.

Okay, but this was a lie. He was lying. He’s actively attacked Social Security and Medicare with his policies. Also, if “moving to the center” was correct, why didn’t voters spark to Harris hanging with Liz Cheney as a show of reaching across the aisle?

I’m sorry it’s so fucking funny to burn Donald Trump by telling him read One Hundred Years of Solitude

More movies should tack on a five-minute scene after the story logically ends that is devoted entirely and exclusively to massacring Klansmen or assorted racists. I don’t really care what it is. Killers of the Flower Moon, 50 First Dates, Frozen 2, whatever
😂
Patrick Mahomes fools both Tony Romo and the Raiders.

"This f*cking never f*cking works."

It did here.

This is an international disaster. They targeted a disabled fishing boat in Colombian territorial waters and killed fishermen.
Did this New Yorker piece light a fire with the Chiefs? Because they’ve been a blast since it was published—the most fun they’ve been to watch in years.
There was a time when the Kansas City Chiefs were beloved as the fun, thrilling underdogs in the N.F.L. But they’ve since become the team that people loved to hate, @louisathomas.bsky.social writes.
The Kansas City Chiefs Are Depressing
The team’s vibes might change if they start winning, and they usually do. But is it possible to win all the time without losing joy and spontaneity?
