Going to the botanic gardens for a weekend stroll was very nice. I got some nice pictures too!
Bunches of white and pink blossoms on a crabapple tree. Some of the fruit is visible. A honeybee hanging from a downward facing crabapple blossom. A short, nearly spherical cactus or succulent with geometric leaves. A wide-angle view of the tropical greenhouse. The top half of the image shows the greenhouse’s unique geometric design of many overlapping arches forming diamonds.

It’s the fact it exists. She doesn’t need a Substack. She has the resources (and her team should have the know-how) to host her own site. Plus her team should be aware—as a matter of their jobs—of the issues with Substack, specifically. Making a Substack now is a choice.

It is laughable to think that you can neuter the far right with minor tweaks like this.

How many Conservative or Reform supporters even know that immigrants have to pass a language test? They object to immigration on emotional grounds, not because they have dry objections to eligibility criteria.
To ensure graduates contribute effectively to the economy, the maximum post-study stay will be reduced to 18 months from the current 2 years for most from 1 January 2027. It comes after data clearly showed that many holders had not transitioned into graduate-level employment as intended.
Finance requirements for student visas will also be increased for the 2025 to 2026 academic year, meaning foreign students will have to demonstrate they have sufficient funds to support themselves.

The medication stockpile bill is the bill I had pegged this year as the most important kind of bill to pass given federal threats, with a short time window to make it happen. Washington passed the same bill earlier this year.

It's so shameful for Newsom to veto this bill.

1. Yesterday, the press gave Gavin Newsom favorable coverage for signing pro-LGBTQ+ bills.

Little noticed, however, was that he vetoed one of the most important ones: a bill allowing trans people 12 month HRT stockpiles, protecting them from federal threats.

The bill would have allowed transgender people to maintain a safe supply of medication in the era of government crackdowns on care.

I have blocked this person, but I keep seeing people say things like this, and I’m begging people to understand two things.

(1) Just because peaceful protest may not be sufficient to win this moment does not mean that it is not necessary.

It is.
From: Olde Stuffe @annalsofwarren.bsky.social

i appreciate your words very often
Germans were very angry at their own government for not being truthful about the fierce nature of their enemy in WWI
this betrayal by leaders and mouthpieces led directly to Hitler and NSDAP
we're telling Americans peaceful protest will solve this
it won't

the most unsurprising thing in the world is now every rightwinger, all yhe way up to JD vance, have explicitely defended this and the statements made by those in this group. and that’s by design, every single rightwinger is now an extremist nazi

Remember the Trump administration's unsuccessful Labor Day effort to expel children to Guatemala?

The lawyers filed an amended complaint today, expanding the scope of the litigation — reflecting the long-term goals of the administration to do the same thing with kids from many countries.
INTRODUCTION
1. This is a complaint on behalf of hundreds of children at risk of unlawful removal
from the United States.
2. Plaintiffs are unaccompanied minors in Office of Refugee Resettlement (“ORR”)
custody whom Defendants have sought or are seeking to remove from the United States in clear
violation of the unambiguous protections that Congress has provided them as vulnerable
children. Defendants have unlawfully claimed the power to expel these children, in violation of
the Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act of 2008 (“TVPRA”), the Immigration
and Nationality Act (“INA”), and the Constitution. Plaintiffs seek to represent a class of
unaccompanied children who are or will be placed in ORR custody and who do not have a final
order of removal or grant of voluntary departure by an immigration judge

New from @agreenberg.bsky.social and me: For three years, security researchers pointed a satellite at the sky and found highly sensitive data being sent unencrypted

They found: calls and texts on T-Mobile’s network; military info from the US and Mexico; in-flight Wi-Fi browsing, and a lot more

With just $800 in basic equipment, researchers found a stunning variety of data—including thousands of T-Mobile users’ calls and texts and even US military communications—sent by satellites unencrypte...

This is some of the best political news I've seen in a very long time.

There's a clear a way to end the Citizens United precedent by changing state incorporation laws - and now luminaries in both parties are forcing a vote on it in the 2026 election.

I'm sorry, is the Trump Administration talking to a tech platform?

Is it...requesting content moderation?
Today following outreach from @thejusticedept, Facebook removed a large group page that was being used to dox and target @ICEgov agents in Chicago.
The wave of violence against ICE has been driven by online apps and social media campaigns designed to put ICE officers at risk just for doing their jobs. The Department of Justice will continue engaging tech companies to eliminate platforms where radicals can incite imminent violence against federal law enforcement.

1. In a major capitulation to Trump, Fenway Health, a center ostensibly dedicated to LGBTQ+ healthcare, has ended its trans care program under 19.

It could have fought for its patients. It chose instead to roll over.

These are the people responsible for protecting the civil rights of students with disabilities and ensuring they receive an equal education.
