A terrific AFP fact check uses reverse image searches to expose how a White House video took scenes from Florida, Texas, South Carolina and Nebraska and lied that they showed "Chicago is in chaos."

We're facing a crisis of inequality in this country, with our social housing in crucial need of long-term investment to secure warm, safe homes for those most in need.

A warm home is your right; a cold home is a political choice. The government must make different ones.

Should be taxed into oblivion. The riches these people make is abhorrent. One of the gambling people has bought half the land in Stoke on Trent! (or something like that...)

Glad to hear this. I maintain that one of the worst, but definitely the most overlooked, thing Blair did was a completely unnecessary liberalisation of gambling laws that allowed bookies to flood the market yet provided no benefit to the British people themselves.

Yesterday I had an emotional conversation on the phone with Arteja. She was trafficked into this country and terrible exploited by gangs before finding safety and community in Liverpool.

Now she’s been detained and is set to be deported back into the hands of those who caused her so much trauma.
They are saying they're sending me home, but Liverpool is my home
Arteja loves Liverpool, supports Everton and has become a key member of the community - but now faces being sent back into the hands of those who exploited her

Qatar gave Trump a $400M jet. Trump gave them a military facility on US soil.

The UAE bought $2B of Trump's stablecoin. Trump gave them access to rare AI chips.

Saudi Arabia invested $2B in Kushner's firm. Trump sold them $142B in arms.

If this isn't corruption, what is?

I was looking at some Scottish cause of death data yesterday and the extent to which transport accident deaths in young men have all but disappeared is pretty remarkable.

Nice to find a good news story in this data for a change.
A lexis diagram - essentially a heatmap showing rates of death from transport accidents by age and over time from 2001-2024 in Scotland. For men in the 2000s there was a clear peak in deaths at ages 15-35 (plus a smaller one in the oldest age groups). But around 2010 this basically disappeared, and now all age groups have similarly, much lower, rates of transport accident deaths. For women the pattern is similar, albeit at a much lower level, except that in the early 2000s there were more deaths in older, rather than younger adults.

This. The leap from ‘there needs to be space to test ideas that may not conform to consensus views’ to ‘YOU MUST BE MADE UNCOMFORTABLE TO LEARN’ is wild, and I’m not sure I got the memo.

Apart from anything, I think it’s not at all educationally sound.

Not once have I seen an explanation for why teenagers must hear things that upset them in virtue of the unspecified speech-acts being upsetting, nor have I ever seen an explanation for why teenagers will be forbidden to express displeasure with upsetting things.
William Hague: Why I’ll banish ‘safe spaces’ at Oxford
The new chancellor tells Cheltenham Literature Festival that there will be no ‘cancel culture’ and students should expect to hear things that upset them
October 14 2025, The Times
The new chancellor of Oxford University has said there will be no safe spaces for students and warned would-be undergraduates that they will “hear things that will upset and offend them”.

Rachel Reeves should consider welfare cuts in budget, says right-wing IFS.

They want the govt to hurt the poor, old, sick, disabled; curtail redistribution which enables millions to survive.

Silence on corporate welfare, ending profiteering, tax abuse by corporations/rich.

It is class war.

At least 3 or 4 years ago there was a scandal about lack of funding for an arts venue in Salisbury. In response, the council spokesperson said direct to camera 'Wiltshire council is an adult social care provider'.

Bessent’s friends have huge investments in Argentina.

Elon Musk does too.

Bessent is sending $40 billion of our money to Argentina with more to come.

There is zero oversight. Congress not involved.

Joking in your Young Republican group chat about the mass murder of 6 million people who'd been scapegoated for decades as morally degenerate ethnic/religious outsiders is just locker room talk. Speaking lightly of the murder of Charlie Kirk to your 400 friends on Facebook is a fireable offense.

Here are the grown “kids”. That one guy looks late 40’s. These are the Hitler lovers.
Vermont state senator Sam Douglass. Bland white guy with glasses and beard. Brown hair. Man in poorly fitting dark suit with glasses and dark hair. Yes he’s white. William Hendrix who is the communications assistant to vile Kris Kobach, Kansas AG. Bobby Walker, dark hair and dressed exactly like trump. Not a kid at all. He’s vice chair of New York State young republicans. I guess young means under 50. Peter Giunta looks like he’s in his 40’s. I don’t know his age. Also dressed like trump in an ill-fitting suit. He has one of the worst combovers I’ve ever seen. Beard and mustache. He’s the chair of the NY state young republicans. He looks like the type of guy that looks through your windows at night.

The US has got to fix its political system. If the government shut down like this anywhere else in the world, and the incumbents were as outrageously unpopular as this bunch, there would be a snap general election, and a new government and prime minister in a week.

If families at the bottom go without food to make ends meet, that's thrift.

If families at the top have to lose one of their four annual holidays, that's deprivation.

It's sickening how this same theme appears in articles again, and again, and again.
