It’s far from the most important thing, morally right now, or in terms of the human stakes, but the ballroom thing is really breaking my brain.
Oh I mean it's absolutely disqualifying, I just think it's probably more likely that he is an idiot than a secret nazi. Just everything about his response reads as very stupid and poor impulse control to me. Either way it's disqualifying but I think there is some use in knowing which.
Nothing about him seems like a man who is capable of admitting error to himself. Which is absolutely disqualifying in a senator. I just legit think an actual secret Nazi probably would have had a better plan for this.
I don't think it's about admitting he was stupid to someone else necessarily so much as like admitting it to himself- like he could keep going "it's just a random skull I liked" if he didn't do that.
Couple laser sessions if you can afford them can also make a coverup way easier. You don't have to be able to get all of it off with laser to make the cover up way easier.
If he had covered it up years ago, he would have had time to find a good coverup artist and his cover up probably wouldn't look like crap too!
I think one possibility, which is still completely disqualifying, is that he found out and then couldn't admit he was stupid so he didn't get it removed or covered up.

Which is still absolutely disqualifying- but getting the coverup or removal requires admitting you fucked up.
Yes! It's disqualifying no matter what because he hasn't done anything about it.
so even if I assume he's telling the truth--that he and his Marine buddies were drunk, decided to get tattoos, and he just picked a cool-looking skull & crossbones off the wall--I'd still want to know *when he learned* that it was a Nazi symbol and *what if anything he thought he should do about it*

I hate to give Pod Save clips of this, but they're the guy who has the footage of him blasted at a party, shirtless, totenkopf on his right pec.

I will say that if I saw that skull on a wall of flash before today, I wouldn't have known it was a Nazi skull.

But it's still disqualifying! Because he has surely found out in the 20ish years since then and didn't do something about it.
I think pretty much all of BlueSky is significantly overestimating the recognizability of the Totenkopf? I mean, I know. A lot of my extremely politically active friends didn't know. A lot of my family didn't know.

It's likely he didn't know. But he also didn't listen to people how told him?
If you claim, as Platner just did, that you were completely unaware the tattoo you got a decade ago is actually a Nazi logo then you are not intellectually competent to be a United States Senator.

This is literally the kindest interpretation I could make of this situation.
Trying to bribe Silwa seems to have backfired spectacularly because now he is running around screaming THEY TRIED TO BRIBE ME which is even worse than him just not dropping out.
The reactionary billionaires are lazy and stupid and never understood either Adams or Sliwa. Fatally, since getting them both out of the race (in time to get their names off the ballot) was an absolute necessity for their plan to have Cuomo win the general election
His comment that he represents an entire ballot line and the people running in other offices under him, in less publicized races, are counting on him being there for turnout so maybe a few over the line is a more astute understanding of politics than seemingly the entire NYT political division has
I don't think he could commute state sentencing?
So I tried googling and couldn't find an answer.

Does anyone have an insight into why Trump commuted Santos sentence instead of pardoning Santos?

The AWS outage exposes again that “the cloud” isn’t magic, it’s infrastructure. The issue isn’t a cyberattack, it’s architectural over-reliance on a handful of cloud giants. We centralized the internet and then made our entire lives dependent on it.
If not, how many mines would it take?

I know there isn't an answer to this because Trump's policies are just stupid nonsense. But I do wish more journalists would ask more clarifying questions like "how much can we produce before tariffs apply?"
So like I know the answer will actually be illogical and inconsistent application.. but I find myself asking "how much in the US makes something tariff-able?"

We have one diamond mine. Does that mean diamonds can be mined in the US and therefore are tariff eligible?
BREAKING: The US is rolling back tariffs on “products that cannot be grown, mined, or naturally produced in the United States," per WSJ
So like.. the people who robbed the Louvre probably already had a buyer before they did it right?

My new party game is "who would be buying France's former crown jewels?"

The whole thing as a vanity exercise to demonstrate a show of force before the No Kings events.

DOD had said that firing bombs over a highway was safe; state officials disagreed and shut down the highway, used by about 80K people daily. Turns out the state officials were right.

The BBC article about this was like "in September the French natural history museum was robbed of 600k euros worth of gold and the porcelain museum was robbed of pieces worth 6.5m euros" and really I think three robberies in less than 2 months suggests France has a museum security problem?

Petro objected to the US bombing a Columbian fishing vessel that had the emergency beacon on because they were broken down, that we subsequently bombed. One Columbian fisherman survived the attack.

This is the official US response to Petro's comments.

Don’t let the frogwater that’s boiling us alive let you skip over this: we murdered another country’s citizens in cold blood, and when their leader objected, we called him a drug dealer and cut off aid to his country. That’s freakish.

I didn't post last Sunday when I got them, but I have two new tattoos!

The aerialist and the moth are new. I already had the spider and I asked the artists to use colors inspired by the spider.

I am very happy and am actually getting the color in my back tattoo reworked soon to match as well

Not sure if this picture made the rounds but this font is one Athena Soules uses often, but was popularized in Occupy Wall Street.

There was even a font made awhile back.

It always gives me the feels. ❤️

All theoretically conceivable parades have the right to exist, and the mayor of New York City must march in each of them.
saw this clip of the NYC mayor debate and i had tears in my eyes, perhaps the most insane section of any debate ever
