Only about one-fifth of applicants for federal disaster assistance from Kerr County have been deemed eligible to get financial help so far, leaving hundreds without governmental aid more than three months after deadly floods ravaged the county on July 4.
FEMA denied or didn’t advance most Kerr County flood requests
Advocates are questioning why so many applicants from the flood-ravaged county have not received federal disaster help. Nonprofits are trying to fill in the gaps.

NEW: Houston city leaders at a press conference this morning assailed Gov. Greg Abbott's mandate to remove rainbow crosswalks, though County Attorney Christian Menefee stopped short of saying a lawsuit was coming, saying only that he's "definitely looking at it."

I'm sorry, is the Trump Administration talking to a tech platform?

Is it...requesting content moderation?
Today following outreach from @thejusticedept, Facebook removed a large group page that was being used to dox and target @ICEgov agents in Chicago.
The wave of violence against ICE has been driven by online apps and social media campaigns designed to put ICE officers at risk just for doing their jobs. The Department of Justice will continue engaging tech companies to eliminate platforms where radicals can incite imminent violence against federal law enforcement.

Update, Alter issued a statement about his second firing by Texas State University: www.kxan.com/news/local/h...

My latest on this story, specifically Dr. Alter's statement to KXAN, is here: www.kxan.com/news/local/h...
“To be clear, my termination is part of a broader political attack being carried out by the authoritarian far-right to crush democracy and democratic institutions in the United States in general and Texas in particular. But the charges leveled against me by the Texas State University administration do not stand up to the facts; I have truth on my side and I look forward to my day in court,” wrote Alter in his Tuesday statement.

A temporary injunction hearing in Alter’s lawsuit is scheduled for Tuesday afternoon, according to Hays County court records.

One day left for @governor.ca.gov @gavinnewsom.bsky.social to act on SB 771.

The clear First Amendment violation & obvious preemption by Section 230 **demand** a veto.

There is no value or virtue in chilling protected speech with a law that courts WILL strike down.

"... With her baby in her placenta"

This is what most people, who hate trans people, sound like to trans people when they talk about trans people
RFK Jr: "Somebody showed me a TikTok video of a pregnant woman at 8 months pregnant -- she's an associate professor at the Columbia Medical School -- and she is saying 'F Trump' and gobbling Tylenol with her baby in her placenta. The level of Trump Derangement Syndrome is now a pathology."

David Simon, creator of ‘The Wire’, being interviewed by Ari Shapiro (NPR)
SHAPIRO: OK, so you've spent your career creating television without Al, and I could imagine today you thinking, boy, I wish I had had that tool to solve those thorny problems...
SIMON: What?
SHAPIRO: ...Or saying...
SIMON: You imagine that?
SHAPIRO: ...Boy, if that had existed, it would have screwed me over.
SIMON: I don't think Al can remotely challenge what writers do at a fundamentally creative level.
SHAPIRO: But if you're trying to transition from scene five to scene six, and you're stuck with that transition, you could imagine plugging that portion of the script into an Al and say, give me 10 ideas for how to transition this.
SIMON: I'd rather put a gun in my mouth.
