Chris Murphy: "This is a country that's falling apart because Trump is in the middle of an authoritarian takeover. We're not on the verge of an authoritarian takeover. We're in the middle of it ... I have no moral obligation to vote for a budget that literally funds the destruction of our democracy"

@resistanceschool.bsky.social 102 tonight was a conversation between Jason Stanley and @karenattiah.bsky.social. Going to be thinking about this class for a long time. The tension between leaving and staying, institutions and how they’re compromised, the necessity of trust. The power of the public.

Colonizing the Mind

Education for colonial people must inevitably mean unrest and revolt; education, therefore, had to be limited and used to inculcate obedience and servility lest the whole colonial system be overthrown.
—W. E. B. Du Bois, "The White Masters of the World"!

The night of the sword and the bullet was followed by the chalk and the blackboard. The physical violence of the battlefield was followed by the psychological violence of the classroom.
-Ngúgi wa Thiong'o, Decolonizing the Mind?

When one group erases the history of another, the latter becomes significantly more vulnerable to domination and conquest. One of the clearest examples of this is the practice of modern colonialism. It is much easier for a colonial power to justify taking land when that land can be represented as lacking a history. When a group of people is represented as having no history, they are being denied any valid claim to the present. Colonialism is an ideal case, perhaps the clearest, for understanding how and why…

JD Vance has excused the leaked racist messages from the young Republicans group chat as “kids being kids” and “just mistakes.” But who really gets to be a kid in this country? And what kinds of kids are allowed to make mistakes?
Another example of GOP fiscal conservatism
Don't forget to add the subsidies to our soy farmers screwed by the tariffs
Tim Walz: "It's almost unimaginable that he's got Milei in there, giving him $20 billion, so that they can undercut us and China can buy their soybeans from them. And now China has learned they can replace our markets."

We got $20 billion for Argentina though.
The Speaker has adopted Stalinism.
Protesting is a First Amendment right. No Kings is a peaceful protest in defense of democracy. Mike Johnson calling it a “hate rally” is pure disinformation He’s trying to seed violence. We see the playbook and we’ll make sure responsibility lands exactly where it belongs.
Mike Johnson sucks

Politicians who meet fascists half way, are just fascists.

Newsom is all about publicity & nothing about integrity.

It’s been depressing watching American ppl hero-worship a power crazed sell-out. It’s not just Kimberly Guilfoyle & cosmetic surgery he has in common with the Trumps. READ this:
1. Yesterday, the press gave Gavin Newsom favorable coverage for signing pro-LGBTQ+ bills.

Little noticed, however, was that he vetoed one of the most important ones: a bill allowing trans people 12 month HRT stockpiles, protecting them from federal threats.

Gavin Newsom Vetoes Important HRT Stockpiling Bill For Trans Californians, Signs Other Pro-LGBTQ+ Bills
The bill would have allowed transgender people to maintain a safe supply of medication in the era of government crackdowns on care.

NEW: There’s a disaster unfolding in Alaska right now. And no major network is covering it.

The remnants of Typhoon Halong battered western Alaska overnight. Homes, with people in them, have literally been swept into the Bering Strait.

At least 20 are missing. No comment from any federal agency.
Sadly, absolutely true! In So. Calif, we were taught nothing about the Chumash, except that they helped build the Spanish mission. Yet, they have lived in part of my town continuously for over 8,000 years and are known to have lived in the area for over 13,000 years.
Because that's the real issue is that folks do not have enough interaction with us, enough education about Native history, our sovereignty and identities to know why images like this are harmful and contribute to the dehumanization, erasure and whitewashing of who we are as humans.

From a candle, a mouse, and a plant, humanity began to glimpse one of nature’s greatest truths: plants sustain life on Earth."

“I spent three nights and three days in federal custody. During that time, I was never told what I was charged with, was not allowed to shower despite being covered in tear gas and pepper spray, had no phone call to my family, and no access to an attorney.” - George Retes, U.S. citizen and veteran.
I’m a US citizen and a veteran. ICE arrested me for no reason.
Jailed for three days without an explanation or ability to notify anyone, George Retes argues the only path to healing starts with the government taking accountability for its actions.

That is different from what the admin said. They claimed it was coming out of DOD R&D funds. Tariff money cannot be touched by the Trump Regime without congressional approval.

UNTIL IT’S DONE, Ep. 4: Sylvia Rivera

In the 1970s, queer New Yorkers had been pushed to the margins of NYC. Our trans neighbors faced immense cruelty. But in Sylvia Rivera, they found a champion.

As we combat Trump’s politics of darkness, her legacy can light the path forward.
Wow! Did she write that all by herself? Amazing!

🧵 Giovanni Baglione (1566-1643), the Roman artist, is best remembered for his biographies of 17th C painters, as well as a court case against Caravaggio. He is seen as having an uneven quality in his art & as very much a follower of Caravaggio’s style. I like his work, let’s take a look! [1]
This what America voted for?!
Let me be clear, that 15 year old CHILD will be TRAUMATIZED over this. Even the Mafia says “no women-no children”. WTF!!!

This now has become something way bigger. The question is, what are WE going to do?

Something NEEDS to stop this. It makes me physically ill.

In Chicago, four vehicles descended and eight ICE agents moved in to kidnap a child.

She screams, “I’m 15,” as ICE yanks her from the car and kneels on her neck.

This is not about immigration enforcement.

It's about terrorizing Americans.
