The river has come alive in the Klamath with wild Chinook salmon. The wider ecosystem is healing.

This most powerful story of Indigenous-led #rewilding after the largest dam removal in US history keeps getting better.

(regardless, I hope you have a great time! I’ve always wanted to visit Maine; my dad lived there for a while as a kid.)

That’s a nice sentiment, but judging from the conversations I had in Toronto over the summer, not sure it’s going to work.

as a Map Guy I feel obliged to comment on Columbus Day: Columbus was a monster, even by the standards of his time and, relevant to my purposes, was a crappy geographer. He thought going West to Asia was possible because he had a laughably incorrect estimate of the circumference of the globe.

A joyous Indigenous Peoples day to you all! And if you're struggling to quit the OTHER mid October holiday cold turkey, may I interest you in an Italian who was a better mapmaker, better explorer, actually visited New England, and didn't (as far as anyone knows) murder anyone?

Found these mystery objects in the water below the Fair Oaks Bridge during a scuba cleanup dive.

Does anyone know what they are? Fish tags of some kind?
Circular silvery tags attached to fabric or thread backing. But what are they?

Ohhh I had to do this once at my mom’s house, at 2 AM on the landing to the second floor outside everyone’s bedrooms. I used a shoebox to trap the bat against the wall, then slid the lid to the shoebox between the wall and the bat, and then threw the shoebox off the front porch. NO ONE WOKE UP. 🤩

Chicago priest Fr. Larry Dowling describes procession to ICE facility: “No one had the courage to speak directly to us. No one from Homeland Security could stand in the presence of the Monstrance holding the Blessed Sacrament. No wonder. Evil is repelled, recoils in the presence of Christ.”
