My foil-hat conspiracy is that people don’t understand how comparisons/simile/metaphor work anymore. I constantly try to say one thing is like another and get people explaining to me that the two things are in fact not literally identical in every single way.

I hate the phrase “history doesn’t repeat, but it rhymes” Like, what does that even mean? Nobody who says that history repeats itself means in the literal sense. people understand that when you say “history is repeating itself” you are referring to patterns not a literal pantomime of a previous time

In a society that actively oppresses non-binary people, folks might:
1. Transition to a different binary gender than where they started because fuck it, call me anything besides (old gender)
2. Go back in the closet
3. (Sadly,) take their lives

So yeah “less non-binary people lol” ain’t a gotcha

Also may I say, as a non-binary person who went from using “they/them” to “they/he” within this exact time period, there are many reasons why someone may go more binary with how they’re referred to and none of them are “because non-binary genders don’t exist”.

Always remember with studies like this, you are getting a very specific data set *of people who would honestly volunteer information to strangers conducting a study*. That’s why the data on numbers of queer people are all over the place, because to say you’re queer is a risk.
