We are furious. Another life has been stolen, another trans or gender non-conforming person pushed past breaking point by a system that does. not. care. Let’s be absolutely clear: this is not some isolated tragedy, not some “unforeseeable” heartbreak. This is the inevitable, preventable result of deliberate neglect. We have been shouting about this for years, screaming into the void, and still, nothing changes. We knew this would happen. And we know it will happen again, because those in power have chosen not to act.

The so-called “blocker ban” was the final straw for many of us, a cruel, ideological assault dressed up as “concern.” There’s nothing compassionate about denying people the healthcare they need to survive. But the truth is, this system was already broken long before that ban. Gender-affirming healthcare in the UK has been left to rot, underfunded, understaffed, and deliberately obstructed. Waiting lists stretch not for months, but for years. People are humiliated by outdated, dehumanising systems, forced to “prove” their identity to strangers who treat them like problems to be managed instead of lives to be saved. Every single day, trans people are denied care, denied dignity, denied safety, and every single day, this cruelty drives more of our community to the edge.

And in Northern Ireland, it’s even worse. We have no functioning gender identity service to speak of. People are left stranded, forced to go private if they can afford it, or left to suffer indefinitely if they can’t. Sinn Féin, Alliance, the SDLP, and the UUP have all failed us. Every single one of them. They’ll show up to Pride, they’ll take their photo ops, they’ll tweet their “support,” but when it comes to actually funding services, standing up to Westminster, or protecting trans people’s lives, they vanish. Empty words and rainbow logos don’t save lives. Silence and inaction kill, just as surely as hateful laws do

And let’s stop pretending any of this is about “concern” for young people. It’s not. It’s about power, control, and moral panic. It’s about a government, a media, and a healthcare system across the UK that do not value trans lives, that see us as something to be debated, restricted, or erased. It’s about a society that treats our existence as expendable.

We are done being quiet. We are done watching people die while politicians pat themselves on the back for “balanced discussion.” We are done pretending this is anything but institutional cruelty. We are tired of vigils. We are tired of mourning people who should still be here. We are tired. of watching our friends and siblings die because the care that could have saved them was locked behind bureaucracy, hostility, and hate. This isn’t tragedy, it’s policy.

Every single delay. Every appointment denied. Every headline dripping with manufactured fear. Every smug politician who chooses cowardice over compassion. They all have blood on their hands.
Every day that proper, timely gender-affirming healthcare remains unavailable in Northern Ireland, in England, in Scotland, and in Wales, more lives are at risk.

We are heartbroken. We are furious. And we will not be silent. We owe it to those we’ve lost, and to every trans person still fighting to survive, to keep shouting, to keep fighting, until this country treats trans healthcare as the emergency it is.
Trans lives are not expendable. This has to stop.

The SDLP has utterly failed the trans community.

Let’s be real: when it came to the puberty blocker ban, the SDLP didn’t just stay silent they sided with the oppressors. They refused to support Gerry Carroll’s motion in Stormont, choosing cowardice over courage. That’s not opposition. That’s complicity.

We’ve heard directly from SDLP sources that if they’d been part of the Executive, they would have voted for the ban. And everything they’ve done (or rather, failed to do ) since the ban came into force only proves it. Not a single meaningful action. Not a word of real solidarity.
More or less silence while trans kids are thrown under the bus.

And now, they’re trying to save face with this pathetic bit of PR in Belfast Live. Instead of condemning the ban, they spin and waffle, trying to sound supportive without actually saying anything. It’s cynical, it’s hollow, and it’s insulting.

Meanwhile, People Before Profit, the Greens, and the Socialist Party have made their positions crystal clear. They’ve shown up, spoken out, and taken action. They’ve stood with trans people when it mattered.

The SDLP? They’ve proven they’ll sell out trans rights the second it’s politically convenient. Don’t let them pretend otherwise.

Trans people deserve real allies! Not cowards in fancy dress who’ll happily look the other way while young people’s lives are put at risk.
