Is it hope?

🇮🇪 Ireland just elected Catherine Connolly - a fierce, independent voice backed by Greens and progressives. A victory for people over power.

Minister Archibald, here’s a tip: try turning that placard around instead of holding it up for another photo op. The real question ISN’T ‘Where’s Our Safe Leave?’ It’s when will you stop posing & finally deliver it? Victims have been waiting since 2022. Enough with empty promises.

Freezing income tax thresholds until 2030–31 is a classic stealth tax. As wages rise with inflation, more low and middle earners are dragged into higher tax bands, while wealth and unearned income remain under‑taxed. Instead of taxing the richest properly, Labour is quietly squeezing workers.

Scrapping the two‑child cap will be a lifeline for many families, but it should never have taken this long. Children have spent years in needless poverty under a policy both Conservatives and Labour defended until the pressure became politically impossible to ignore.

Cutting the Cash ISA limit from £20,000 to £12,000 for under‑65s hits people who are doing the right thing and trying to save for a deposit or a bit of security. Instead of taxing extreme wealth and windfall profits, Labour is dipping into the pockets of ordinary savers.

The UK government is bragging about £370m for Northern Ireland - but it’s spread over years while Stormont faces a £400m black hole right now. This isn’t a rescue package, it’s a press release.

Timid budget, timid Labour. If you’re done with continuity Tory politics that protects wealth & polluters while services fall apart, it’s time to go Green. Together, we can demand real investment, real climate action and an economy that works for people, not billionaires: greenpartyni.org/join.

Freezing fuel duty again while slapping pay-per-mile on EVs is backwards. It rewards pollution and punishes cleaner choices. If we are serious about fair funding for roads and cutting emissions, the charge has to apply to all vehicles based on miles driven and impact caused.

This budget is pure continuity Tory - just window dressing for inequality. The asset hoarders get to extracting wealth while the rest of us are squeezed. No real funding for our public services, no ambition to close the gap between rich and poor.

Northern Ireland’s headline funding boost masks deeper problems: Labour’s budget still puts the squeeze on working people through frozen tax thresholds, while the richest and big polluters avoid paying their fair share.

The 50 richest families now control more wealth than half the UK population, while Labour refuses to tax the rich or tackle runaway inequality.

“Cost of living” is just a slogan for a government still protecting power and privilege.

Are the Labour Government finally going to bring in rent controls?

I seem to be living rent free in their heads!

So it looks like Rachel Reeves has *not* abolished or cut back the cycle to work scheme. Perhaps she has read the Treasury's own 2023 assessment of the scheme, which found that in terms of creating modal shift, and thus boosting public health, it is very, very effective.

Watch as Rachel Reeves brands Greens leader Zack Polanski a 'keen hypnotherapist'

🗣️ 'The only things getting bigger under his approach would be the deficit and the rise of inflation'

Criticise your political opponent's suggestions, refute their solutions, by all means.
There's no need for ridicule or ad hominem attacks.

Reeves' remarks have rightly backfired. Now, everyone understands @zackpolanski.bsky.social has spooked Labour (& that their comms are still a disaster).

Families left cold. Kids locked in poverty. Schools and hospitals squeezed while polluters profit. We need real transformation - fair taxes, green jobs, proper funding for public services and a future free from self-harming austerity. Not one step backward.

Safe Leave Act was a Green Party victory. It was fought for & championed by Rachel Woods when she served as the Green Party MLA for North Down, and passed in March 2022. Now watch as other Stormont parties take credit for “future implementation” whilst domestic abuse victims continue to wait.

Where’s our Safe Leave?
It’s disgraceful that a @greenpartyni.org bill passed in the last Assembly mandate has still not been introduced by the failing executive at Stormont.
The Sinn Fein Minister & her department have failed the vulnerable, who need help to escape domestic violence. Northern Ireland needs #SaveLeaveNow
251125. Stormont. Safe Leave. Now!

Brian Smyth and the Green Party are demanding urgent action from the Irish Football Association to protect local sports. Stronger vetting and safeguarding standards are essential - fans and families deserve real leadership to defend our clubs and our community’s trust.

A staggering 4,730 children in Northern Ireland are living in temporary accommodation - a 121% rise since 2019. Childhood homelessness harms health, wellbeing, and education. Please #SeeThePerson and support efforts to help children and families facing homelessness. #HAW25

Schools should include every child, not divide them. The Supreme Court has ruled: respect all faiths & none. Hear Cllr Anthony Flynn on BBCNI Good Morning Ulster cut through the spin - why real inclusion is urgent, and Northern Ireland’s future is unapologetically diverse. #GPNI

i look forward to the day when i can spend TDoR in quiet mourning.

but for now, it's a battle, and i will keep fighting to prevent having to mourn more of my friends.
On this Trans Day of Remembrance, we honour the lives of trans and nonbinary people lost to violence, discrimination, and despair. We stand with those who face injustice and prejudice every day.

Every child has rights - unbreakable, non-negotiable, universal. Yet too many still go unheard and unprotected. This World Children’s Day, the Green Party Northern Ireland stands firmly behind the full legal incorporation of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.
