I write things that explain other things for USA TODAY NETWORK Florida. I also take pictures, mostly for me. My opinions are my own and I only agree with about half of them. He/him.

New followers, hi! I’m a trending writer for the USA TODAY NETWORK in Florida, which means I try to explain what’s going on, from hurricanes to politics to pop culture to health threats. Sometimes it helps.

I’m also a photographer for local performers, a dog dad, and a thrifter on weekends.
Me, a white-bearded bald dude, on a couch with my black lab mix dog Hawke noticing that I have stopped petting him to take a picture and looking up disapprovingly.
My dog was turned in by his former owner because the owner couldn’t care for him. Sweetest dog I’ve ever had.
Black lab mix dog getting scratched under the jaw and pretty happy about it.
I was making a shopping list and "mouse traps" was autocorrected to "muse traps."

Now I'm really, really curious what would work on muses. Peanut butter? Ancient scrolls? The $1,500 RF camera lens I've been looking at?
Eek! Take care and all the time you need.
You see, since masking is obviously ineffectual than you are obviously masking solely as a performative stunt to attack them and their way of life, obviously.
OK I'm gonna need everyone to get in on this Kickstarter so it hits the stretch goal because I need an Edward Gorey figure. Make this happen, people.
Dracula Art Toy - Collectable Cities x Edward Gorey
A hauntingly good collaboration - limited edition collectables and key rings.

Actual human anatomy is so artistically limiting. True artists must be free to just whip out any vaguely humanoid shape, provided it includes 10’-long, shapely legs.
There are more than 80 "No Kings" protests happening in Florida this Saturday against an adminstration that seems to be gearing up its response to opposition.

Here's where and when they're scheduled.

Would just like to state for the record that the stock market has never even once been an indicator of how I’m actually doing in any way ever so
Don’t ask me. I still use punctuation.
Mostly I learned, again, that strips don’t have to have backgrounds or even make any sense at all as long as you can draw thighs longer than torsos and heads combined.
For that matter, too many episodes fall prey to the “we HAVE cell phones but we lost them/can’t get a signal/inexplicably forgot they exist.

But the shows that work, work REALLY well.
I assumed between takes it’s being steam cleaned, possibly with one of those fumigation tents.
And of course, your political action committee would be the Greg Pak Pak PAC
Based on the last, what, 20 years, I suspect this is a far superior method of choosing a NYC mayor.

Although even if I am a runner-up, if nominated I will not run, yadda yadda.
Depends on my hunger level.

Hungry: bacon egg and cheese on plain toasted bagel

Not so hungry: plain or wheat toasted bagel with cream cheese

Middle of the night and I just want something: toasted whatever bagel we have in the house with too much butter
I am not surprised that men believe they can predict how a menstruating woman will act and perform when a) many of the men clearly don’t understand women or periods and b) not even the menstruating women know for sure.

These are the same guys who think they can defeat gorillas.
Several of the comedians said they believed comedy could open communication. If they had attended a comedy event held by Saudi citizens where they spoke out against the regime, rather than a controlled PR event from the royals, I might have believed them.
It’s the traditional opening salvo, a mandatory measure to alert passersby that saxophone music is about to commence.
Latina woman fighting autocracy in Venezuela won the Nobel Peace Prize.

"When authoritarians seize power, it is crucial to recognise courageous defenders of freedom who rise and resist," the committee said.
Nobel Peace Prize goes to Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado
Machado, a 58-year-old industrial engineer who lives in hiding, was blocked in 2024 by Venezuela's courts from running for president.

I searched Google trying to find an article I’d written about a legislative bill only to have it explain that I had in fact written and sponsored the bill.

Reader, I had not.
I first saw "Plan 9" at my first comics convention in the early 80s. I had never heard of it, and wandered into a movie room with a friend to find someplace to sit down for a few minutes.

That was... an experience. Pretty sure I just sat there staring with my mouth open till the credits.
Saw Plan 9 at the Metrograph and the reel only broke once! An earnest mix of “let’s put on a show” and a fixation on death. Criswell prophesies what we dare not dream!
If you haven't yet, also check out Landis Blair. VERY Gorey-inspired, especially "The Envious Siblings: And Other Morbid Nursery Rhymes," but also some serious work with amazing art.
