In general, I prefer podcasts/education in 100% Spanish, but Molly's podcasts are really helpful for expansing your medical phrasing beyond "¿Donde le duele?"

I might suggest the sequence of online courses at Canopy. Quality stuff. I've also used their assessment tools (multi-hour speaking/listening test) to see where I stand in *medical* spanish.

Yeah, owner of LAtimes is problematic. But OTOH, it has folks like @gustavoarellano.bsky.social writing columns, and has great perspectives on e.g. ICE operations in the city.

As for the ExD analogy - I'm too close to that issue to see it as a useful comparison, but heck go for it

I think the period of my career (roughly

1990 to 2023) corresponded to a collapse

in the quality of research and publication

in philosophy and other humanities and

social science disciplines. In 1980, there

were big, distinctive and idiosyncratic

philosophers such as Michel Foucault,

Richard Rorty, W.V.O. Quine, Arthur

Danto and Judith Jarvis Thomson. By

2010, their voices had been muted, and

perhaps no one as bold as they were

could have survived grad school. My

impression is that many practitioners

of other disciplines feel roughly the

same. Academic production is more

homogenous, blander, safer and less

sincere.

Jason Stanley (born 1969) is the Bissell-Heyd Chair in American studies in the Munk School of Global Affairs & Public Policy at the University of Toronto, and also has an appointment in the department of philosophy. In addition to his position at the Munk School, he is a distinguished professor at the Kyiv School of Economics. Before coming to the University of Toronto in 2025, he held positions as a professor of philosophy at Yale University (2013–2025), Rutgers University (2004–2013), the University of Michigan (2000–04), and Cornell University (1995–2000). He accepted the appointment at the University of Toronto in 2025, fleeing the U.S. because of what he describes as the deteriorating political situation.[1][2
