Some recentish ones I’ve read, include Adania Shibli’s Minor Detail, Michael Winkler’s Grimmish, Alexis Wright’s work, David Coventry’s Performance, and Geetanjali Shree’s Tomb of Sand (I need to read her new book). I’m also hoping Krasznahorkai’s Nobel win might lead to more distribution

The new Wellington City Council will include 5 Labour councillors and 4 Green councillors, plus Andrew Little, giving the two party "coalition" an increased governing majority - 10 out of 16 votes, compared to 8 under the previous council.

On a more serious note, Collins thinks the Riyadh lineup reflects something dire about both American politics and the bifurcated woke-versus-anti-woke comedy scene. Collins says there’s “a lot of money” behind enticing anti-woke comics to shill for the political project on the right. “I also like money, but I think getting hundreds of thousands of dollars to tell jokes for 10 minutes about ‘airline food is bad’ is actually illustrative of a much larger thing: The stuff that’s getting greenlit is not necessarily popular with the populace. It’s popular with rich people who are sick of being yelled at in the media. They are using some of these people as vehicles for whatever the comedy equivalent of greenwashing is.”

Under the first Labour government New Zealand took an independent line in the League of Nations. For instance, when Italy invaded Ethiopia in 1935 the league imposed economic sanctions against Italy, but these were lifted in 1936 when Italy threatened to go to war over the matter. New Zealand opposed the lifting of sanctions and the league's decision not to challenge Italian aggression, which put New Zealand at odds with Britain's position.
