Man, people gotta stop saying “bad apples”. The whole point of this old saying is if you don’t remove the bad apples they spoil the rest of them. If the GOP had been removing their bad apples all along, maybe they’d be a sane party today.

It’s really too bad. He could have more beloved than FDR but the right wing had labeled him a radical and he was terrified of inhabiting that. He carried a lot of weight being the first black president and I think that led to him play it way too safe.

I’m seeing two reactions to this story: “OMG” and “Well, duh”.

Which group you fall into depends entirely on whether or not you ever interacted with a member of the Young Republicans going back to at least the ‘80s and probably 20 years before that.

I was referring to whether he had the votes. As far as what he really wanted, I don't really care. But I agree he always kept too much to the middle and if he'd just gone for it, he would have been the greatest president in history.

I often compare higher education costs to new car costs. The availability of financing drives up costs and higher costs drives more financing. The two push each other forever upward.
