For new followers (and old ones). As I say in my bio, I am an avid reader. I read a lot, books, articles, so on, and I often share what I read for various reasons. Also snark and crack jokes

Hi #PortfolioDay, I'm Alena, a freelance illustrator who loves painting things with character, capturing little story moments. Working mainly - but not only - in card/board games & book covers.

Take a look at what I do at www.ajinak.cz 🎨
A collage of digital paintings: A sneaky red dragon above a forest stream, examining a little garnet. Two trios of bookmark illustrations, one centering around scenes (viking/valkyrie/valhalla, dwarf and swords, innkeeper and his rat inside a tavern), the other around female characters (vampire ball, steampunk, dark fantasy and magic). A cat warlock with glowing dual-bladed sword in a dusk scene. Arthas as a puppet paladin held by a boy, with red rose petals swirling around. An albino murloc pirate strolling a sunny beach, grinning, holding a sabre and a bamboozled fish.

Yea, but you know. No one in #academia and #HigherEd wants to give up nor change current dynamic of "publish or perish" in prestigious peer reviewed journals only 3 other academics might read (assuming the #library buys it for them because they're not subscribing themselves).

Anyhow, see thread.

My hottest academic take is that academics should write for the audiences they want to benefit from their work or they should shut it when those neglected audiences don't use their work.

'While researchers typically publish in academic journals and books, the authors found, higher education managers are more likely to consult practice-oriented journals, newsletters, conference inputs and social media platforms such as LinkedIn.'

The #SevenOfWands is today’s #TarotCardOfTheDay.

Competition is fierce today, and people aren’t afraid to@play dirty. That job you want? That man? That last cookie? Be prepared to put up a fight - and it might not be 1-on-1.

Been drinking coffee since I was a child (so likely have bit of caffeine immunity by now). Anyhow, I cut out cream and sugar for it, so black with a bit of whiskey in morning if at home, plain black if out and about.

Drink tea occasionally, don't really put anything on it, a little honey maybe.

I don't think most Americans could pass the citizenship test that they make immigrants take to become US citizens.

As for geography, National Geographic used to do a nations survey, and US always ended up in bottom of that too.

But hey, USA number 1, baby!

Just finished my last research consult with a student for today. Late appointment due to me teaching a late afternoon/early evening library instruction class.

Anyhow, a bit too busy today to do the #Tarot card of the evening. Campus holiday tomorrow, so next card likely on Wed.

As someone who taught writing and composition in college, yea, that resonated. It's not that you fooled the teacher. It's that your teacher, one, does not want to be an asshole to you and two, he does not want to go through the hassle of confronting your #AISlop work. (e)

Man, who left that window open and let in that cold breeze?

I only have memorized 2 or 3 numbers, but in younger days I had a few memorized.

If anyone needs me I will be in the museum, lying down next to the bog bodies.
Did people really memorize phone numbers before cell phones, or is that just a movie thing?
2? Questions
I was watching some old shows from the 90s and noticed people would just dial numbers from memory - like they'd call their friends or family without looking anything up.
Made me wonder if that was actually normal back then? Did people genuinely have all their important numbers memorized, or did most folks keep a little address book or written list nearby?

OK, maybe you can go wrong with 'Gladiator 2,' but NOT because of Denzel Washington.
