This shit is so exhausting. We could be trying to replicate the multi-level, intergenerational nature of the CRM. We could be talking from a starting point that resistance to MAGA is already more popular than the CRM ever was (actual data to support this premise), but instead here we are. *sigh*

That is such a ridiculous claim because even if there were metrics to support it, wth is the point of the statement? & this feels like another one of those things where the person making the argument probably hasn't read enough on the subject. The multi-facetedness of the CRM is a KEY characteristic

Because in US culture conservative = white; therefore liberal = nonwhite. So to a large degree every conversation starts from the premise that "liberals" aren't "real" people. The outsized roles of anti-Blackness/racism in the US' overall culture makes it so easy for this populist framing to hit

I read the piece. You shouldn't. He dismisses the "No Kings" protests as liberals in blue cities. He invokes Rosa Parks, as if rural white people in the 60s loved everything that the movement then was doing. "We need a movement but not this one" is a core centrist tact these days.

there’s a subset of people who, if you point out something bad happening now, will basically reply “it was always like this and anyone who disagrees is just privileged.” it parades as savvy but nine times out of ten it’s just an ahistorical oversimplification.
