"Transsexuality is bourgeois" reflects the common belief that medicine, technology, and any improvements to quality of life are owed to capitalism. The reality is that capitalism holds these improvements hostage for the sake of wealth.

there are merfolk in my big gay cannibalism novel, hunted for the oil in their fats and their beautiful hair. Including one who has turned on his own kind and aids in their capture. Then there’s fishguts, who isn’t a merman but wishes he was one. & this is from a short erotica I might come back to.
As he pushes through the edge of the group silence falls over them. Between the men in front he spies a glimpse of the lithe, muscular tail — black, and glimmering with oilslick iridescence. A spiny dorsal fin flexes as it flails against the deck. He has never seen the like. His eyes follow the shape of it towards the head. A whale — a young whale, strayed from the pod. A porpoise. He shoulders his way through to the front.
Calum stands before it now, before the sloughing pile of fish. A pale hand shoots out from beneath the net. He stumbles backwards. There, impossibly conjoined with the vast tail, struggling against the rope that binds it, is a body. A live, human body. Moon pale and cut with muscle, a river of midnight hair plastered to it. The face is of a cruel beauty; the kind of grace that only forms in the cold pressure of the deep. Stormy of complexion, a furrowed brow and long nose flared in anger. The lips, peach pink, and the eyes as dark as the ocean itself. For a second their gazes meet. Terror harpoons Calum. He falls, hitting the deck hard, his eyes still locked with those of the creature. His body trembles, his mind racing. He has heard the stories, the same as any fisherman. Old wives tales. His gut is a maelstrom — of fear, of wonder. A chill sweat coats his body.
“Throw it back,” Calum stammers, as he finally finds his voice. “For God’s sake, throw it back.”

Sex scenes are almost never "gratuitous" or "unnecessary." You learn things about characters and relationships during sex that you can't really learn any other way, such as whether they're into fisting.
