Mostly quirky stuff, mostly in Edinburgh. Occasional forays into Scottish rugby.

I know Geddy wanted do a European tour on R40 but Neil refused. He didn’t even really want to do the US/Canada gigs. Hopefully Geddy still wants to play here and this time he only has to persuade Alex. Maybe remind him of all the great golf courses in Scotland. 🤞

Mostly they’ve toured here in either September/October or April/May.

Or more pertinently, Samuel Taylor Coleridge’s opium intake.

This was the first Rush track I ever heard. This video was on The Old Grey Whistle Test not long after release. Geddy in silk kimono 😀. I bought the album as soon as possible with my paper round money.

In the class exam I got 18%, the top score (from someone destined for a first) was 40%. Luckily in the final exams it was pick 5 questions from 8. In reality 5 from 7. I don’t think anyone did the electromagnetics question.

I did Electrical Engineering & Electronics at Edinburgh Uni in the early 80s. The courses on Electromagnetism were by some distance the most difficult of the entire degree course. The maths required was beyond most of us, despite two years of post school maths.

Great album. I went through a Trevor Horn period in the mid 80s, on the back of 90125. I got this, Lexicon of Love and Welcome To The Pleasure Dome. His production style definitely influenced Power Windows.

Is David Surkamp from Pavlov’s Dog still alive and singing?

I don’t remember the exact timings but two of the yellows significantly overlapped so it was more like 32 minutes with 14 and 8 minutes with 13. 😡

Having said all that, I too end up streaming from Spotify a lot of the time, at their highest bit rate. To be honest my old ears were abused when I was younger and I have tinnitus so that’s good enough quality for me.

I ripped all my CDs to lossless FLAC, put them on a network drive and stream them on a Sonos Port to my hifi. All the CDs went to charity. New music I buy Bandcamp downloads and sometimes CDs. The CD gets ripped and put on a pile for the charity shop. I have 3 physical backups and 2 online backups.

I love a sunny autumn day.

I hereby declare war on premature Christmassing.

Any shop caught doing this before 1st December must be shut down and turned into affordable housing.

Choose sanity. Vote Binface.

Better but four yellows is unacceptable. I thought it might be five when Darcy tackled someone in the air. Richardson looked good. Our attack has two options. One out bashing up or get the ball to Darcy and hope for a miracle play. Admittedly the latter actually worked for the 3rd try.

Ben Shitehouse is an appalling referee.

A friend has access to one of the presales. Tickets were $600 CAD each for seats half way the floor of the arena. 😮

#31DaysOfGraves Day 10: urn

I took this photo one foggy morning in the Calton Hill cemetery, Edinburgh. For those that care, Pentax K-3iii, SMC Pentax-F 50mm f/1.7 lens.

Black and white photograph of a tall burial monument. A tall urn with two handles stands on a tall plinth with a square cross-section. In the background is a leafless winter tree and multiple other monuments including some obelisks. It is a little bit foggy.

Great news. 🎉 Congratulations all round (especially to the mother because let’s face it she did all the hard work).

Autumnal ovals beside the Water of Leith.
A series of concentric ovals in the ground made of grey setts. Autumn leaves are helping to define the oval shapes.
