A Gpose screenshot of my Elezen FFXIV character Calypso, riding on the back of a reindeer in a snowy landscape at dawn. A photo of 5 different wooden charms, each featuring different "kelptea" art of mine (kelpie plus tea). One of my Junicorn 2025 pieces, a kirin or qilin (basically a draconic-looking unicorn).

SO much of the cultural and artistic nostalgia that society chases was just art made when people got paid to do it. Lavish movie posters made by human artists, video games made by people without sixteen different investment companies breathing down their neck, movies made by studios taking a chance.
damn, not Phil too 💀😭

I am instead doing a random study from my Tanaka fashion art book but I am enjoying myself greatly. Calypso's one of my few OCs with long hair so she gets to be my muse for stuff like this!
A photo of my sketchbook showing an in progress drawing of my elf OC Calypso. Next to the sketchbook is an art book by Japanese illustrator Tanaka, open to pages showcasing fashion art of girls with butterflies in their long hair.

🍃 Flora of Middle Earth 🍃

Another piece for my fandom flower posters. I really enjoyed working on this one in particular though, since I grew up surrounded by Tolkien's work!~

a japanese 7/11 in my neighborhood would fix me
The Japanese parent company of 7-Eleven is betting billions of dollars that it can expand its business in the U.S. by making its convenience stores more like the food meccas they are in Japan. nyti.ms/3KTwGve

I was just thinking about this today too! They can plant new trees, but they'll take years to grow as tall as the old ones. I'd love if they were able to transplant some big ones instead

Me every time someone is like "Studio Ghibli Hayao Miyazaki so cutesie ootsy cozy wozy cottagecore"
First image: the little kid from Twilight Zone: The Movie, Joe Dante segment "It's a Good Life" saying "I'm wishing you into Cartoon Land"
Second image: the cursed boar god Nago from Studio Ghibli film Princess Mononoke, screaming in pain and fury as worms writhe from his flesh before he resumes trying to eviscerate every human he sees. This is one of the victim characters of the movie.
Yuuuup, and most - if not all - artists are willing to work within a budget, you just have to ask. Some even have premade covers at low cost where you just change the title when you buy to make it yours. Stock illustrations are a thing too! There are so many options out there!
Right!! How do you have any real sense of ownership when the words your characters are saying came from other people's books...

Digital painting of a winged centaur. He has curly hair and facial beard, and his horse half is white, and extremely furry. His human half is covered in tattoos and white body hair, and he is wielding a mace/hammer weapon that is in the shape of a horse head. Digital painting of a pterosaur-like beast called "Wyvern Of The Sea". Its head, neck and upper torso is mostly white, it has a long yellow bill with sharp tips similar to a snapping turtle, a crest on top of its top beak, and an expandable pouch on its throat, similar to a pelican. There is a voluminous pouch of expandable sac around its neck and chest, similar to a Frigatebird, but it seems more decorative than functional. Its lower torso is a black color, with strong bird legs, that have blue webbed feet, similar to the bird Booby. Its tail is long, with fins running on its side, and on its tips.

It has wings that are more webbed than they are feathered, with a protruding thumb similar to a bat's, and three noticeable digits that are flat than they are wiry. It seems this creature is more reptilian and hydrodynamic, than it is avian and capable of flight. Digital painting of an elegant merman. There is a glow of royal blue coming out of a cavity in middle of his upper torso in the middle that extends to his abdomen, and out of two columns of holes in his bottom portion. His tail seems to be a hollow flesh and the blue magic extends out to form his fish tail. There is a royal blue sword on top of the character; the sword is slim and sharp, and the blade is sculpted to have an impaled fish on its end. fairy with giant blue morpho butterfly wings and a faint halo, holding a lantern that attract butterflies.

There's also an author who unashamedly uses genAI to write their books and they are PROUD OF THIS?? But their justification is that it's okay because they're queer, and their characters and stories are all queer, so they're doing us all a service???
I just. No. No! It's an insult to actual authors.
I keep seeing kickstarters where the author used genAI to make art for their book covers AND interior illustrations...and their justification is always stupid. "I don't have time to make art" Oh but you have time to write. How are we supposed to trust you didn't use any AI for your text as well, hm?
