Lewy body dementia promotion by air pollutants
Evidence links air pollution to dementia, yet its role in Lewy body dementia (LBD) remains unclear. In this work, we showed in a cohort of 56.5 million individuals across the United States that fine p...

The study reveals how a blend of cement, water, ultra-fine carbon black, and electrolytes can form an “electron-conducting carbon concrete,” or ec3. This innovative mixture builds a conductive nanonetwork within the concrete itself, allowing it to store and release electricity
Concrete that powers cities? Scientists turn ancient material into giant batteries | The Optimist Daily
MIT researchers develop a new kind of battery-powered concrete that could turn city infrastructure into green energy storage.

Earth's atmosphere is 1.4°C hotter than during the pre-industrial era.

Warm-water coral reefs hit their tipping point at 1.2°C.

Permafrost, the subpolar gyre, the Greenland & West Antarctic ice sheets (& the Amazon rainforest once deforestion is factored in) all reach their tipping point ~1.5°C.

Totally agree about the excessive verification. I did try but it couldn't recognise my face as human 😆 apparently it's a common problem. So I use a free vpn (the brand with a key logo) and make sure it connects somewhere outside the U.K. Then I log into Bluesky via the web rather than the app.

Global deforestation hasn’t slowed in any significant way in the four years since 127 countries pledged to halt and reverse forest loss and degradation by 2030.

The newly published 2025 Forest Declaration Assessment shows that nations are 63% off track from meeting their zero-deforestation target.

I have the opposite problem of constantly typing i instead of o. My wrist is just too lazy to reach that extra 2mm to the right. Must be a mental block. It means I often write pists instead of posts which, tbh, is probably a more accurate description 😆

#Morocco 2025
The Willow warbler showing of its #wings and beautiful yellow plumage. Definitely gained extra respect for "our" birds seeing how harsh the environments they migrate through are.

Photo of a willow warbler with its wings outstretched balancing in a bush of green and brown thorns (Genus Sarcopoterium) growing in the in the semi arid area of habitat Morocco- This delicate bird has a bright yellow chest and belly with a darker greener nech nape and head It has a prominent black eyestripe with another white stripe above the black
A small single bright yellow flower to the left of the bird gives a very slightly more arty feel to the picture

🤔 Ambivalent about that one. Carbon capture is exorbitantly expensive and the mitigation effect is paltry. Plus it allows for continued burning of greenhouse gases. Then again, maybe this new tech boosts efficiency. In a Trumpian petro-state, one is continually backed into compromise...

Good idea! Also as hibernation season approaches, these guys get wider and it's harder for them to fit in the sink pedestal/tunnel. 🍔🦔😆
So I was going to have to rethink the set-up anyway.

Red Squirrels always looking like they're about to politely interrupt
A Red Squirrel stands upright on the forest floor, tiny paws clasped neatly together as if waiting nervously to ask a question. Its wide eyes and hesitant posture give it an endearing, almost apologetic expression, as though feeling rather unsure about interrupting.

One-Eye is a regular visitor to my wildlife canteen. He has trouble chewing, so I try to leave soft food as well as kibble.

Unfortunately, a cat always gets to the good stuff first and One-Eye's poor vision prevents him from eating in the narrow tunnel I installed to keep cats out.

Suggestions?

That's really interesting. Apparently bits of the the set, including that domed, semi-subterranean house, can still be seen on Google Earth, slowly sinking into the sand.

There are some quirky odd places in the UK, this one near where I live. A calm little fishing pond, somehow surviving wedged in the middle of a large industrial area, with a lone wind turbine at the end. Have seen people fishing here, though I might be a bit dubious about the catch!
