At Twitter's peak you could post a question and have 18 replies within an hour: 5 automated garbage, 4 bad jokes, 6 confidently wrong, 1 from someone with a PhD on the topic, a set of serial replies from someone with a hyperfixation that provides more useful info than the PhD, and a death threat

one of the reasons they're so mad at "no kings" is that they thought they were going to get a different kind of protest. they *want* the black bloc to be out there fighting with the cops. those are the images they've been trying to generate from "go." instead--

MAGA Rage at “No Kings” Boils Over—and It Quickly Backfires on Trump
As Trump allies smear the coming protests, a good writer on MAGA skewers the absurdity of these attacks on large swaths of Americans—and explains why our best recourse will be to turn out in force.

politically, i will defend the right and merit of all art, no matter how garbage it is, to exist to my dying breath

personally, i would like to see about 95% of Dutch so-called 'literature' processed into toilet paper, and I acknowledge this is probably a skill issue on my part

i am unfortunately increasingly inclined to say we should look to the invention of the printing press and the centuries of disorder and chaos and dysfunction that followed its introduction until people and the system eventually adjusted to a new reality where ppl could read nonsense & believe it

I don't see how we can have a democracy when about one-third of our country's population is COMPLETELY psychotic and detached from reality. I mean that literally and in reference to many of my family members: they flat-out reject the real world and the very concept of evidence.

(i mean i am being a bit flippant about it but i also don't doubt you've had *some* influence on this, if only because i refuse to believe the venn diagram of "employed at paradox" and "likes watching video essays on the portrayal of history" is anything other than a circle)

As I said in the comments to this, remember that Pittsburgh shuts down a major road every year so that the public can hang out with weirdos in animal costumes because they adore us that much, and every year it makes all the haters look like joyless obsessive losers to the general public

Like I know there are edgelord leftists out there who look down their noses at shit like No Kings but sorry you guys, the more mass protest looks fun and family-friendly, the bigger it gets and the better its chances of being broadly effective

Portland does not own the patent on inflatable animal costume protests, come on people

When you make protests look fun and whimsical, it not only encourages people to join in, it makes the people insisting they're violent terrorists look like absolute jokes and it's more difficult for media collaborators to push their narrative

I wouldn't dare insinuate this is down to my nefarious influences, but I am very glad to see things like "pop-history expectations" and Paradox getting their role as an entry-point and genuine force in historical perception coming up, right alongside words like "responsibility" no less.
Tinto flags post, reading: "We have also often found that upon original research, we uncover that the pop-history expectation is just wrong, or that there is a “more correct” option lurking in the clues offered by historical records. In this case we have erred on the side of historicity. We understand that Paradox games are important entry points into the fascinating world of flags, and also that they have historically influenced the popular history of flags to a certain degree. As such, we believe that EU5 has a responsibility to challenge preconceptions and offer an updated understanding of history, and that we should not simply amplify old mistakes."

followed by an image of the Saruhan flag from EU4 which was a LOTR reference, and the text "some exceptions were made, of course."

So, again (and I hope I'm not being too intrusive by @'ing you), thank you so much. Y'all at the Ogre are making incredible art, and it's elating and inspiring in equal measure to see the absolute brilliance you guys can get up to. Thank you so much for the work you do.

Anyway @alfabusa.bsky.social I know this has been literally four years so you probably don't remember this exchange, but not only do I stand by what I said RE: TTS tethering me to a core part of my teen years (a torch now passed to Lorebeards), but H:tP has also dragged me into the wonders of WoD!
