All of my stories are, one way or another, about how the people at the top of the heap are the problem. Much (most) evil in the world is done by them to maintain their position. The only good use of a billionaire in a story is as the main course of a cannibal feast.

There is no supernatural anything in my survival horror. There's science fiction, though.

I had to make desperation - and what it causes people to do - as scary as possible.

It's a slow burn.

My one fantasy thing does has some scary moments, though.

Environmental collapse is the greatest equalizer.
Who's rich? Who's poor?
All that matters is whose stomach is fullest the longest, who has the weapons, and who has the shelter.
Nobody is safe.

I wrote a survival horror, so, by definition, all characters, and particularly the MC, are struggling.

It's cold, there's no food, and MC - at first - has no weapon.

The deprivation defines the world and entirely shapes the actions of the characters and antagonists.

I'm A, and I wrote a survival horror. I'm also flirting with the idea of a psychological/medical horror short. We'll see. Oh and I'm morally grey I mean True Neutral. Money-wise, I do okay. Being in France and having nationalized healthcare helps.

I think of myself as scraping-by-working-class after spending most of my life living that way. Morally, I have high enough standards that I constantly beat myself up. (Or is that the religious trauma from youth?)

And then there are those that reflect the mindset of the MCs, like "Out of My Mind" and "The War" (Ash) and "Blood Upon the Snow" and "Stand By Me" (Leim).

And the song that could have been the title of this book? "I Don't Want to Set The World On Fire". Guess you'll have to read it to know why....

If I had to pick one track to represent the book, it'd be "Woke Up A Rebel" by Reuben and the Dark - just listen to those lyrics!

There are a few songs that encapsulate the vibes of a single scene/chapter, like "The Lion's Roar" (chapters 1-2) and "In The Woods Somewhere" (Ash waking in [redacted])
